Boston Herald critic Jim Verniere informs that the Boston Film Critics will vote this coming Sunday, and yet he can't get get his hands on a screener for Steven Soderbergh's Che, or one for Rod Lurie's Nothing But The Truth. If I were IFC I would have rented a room and have a big Che screening for the whole Boston gang.

Update: IFC, I'm told, "did send the Boston Film Critics screeners by priority mail," and that its mailing house "did send a copy to Verniere a while ago." They are nonetheless "overnighting him a new screener today," I'm told. "These things happen but it is not on purpose."

Well, that's too bad because that also means they didn't get Brian Goodman's What Doesn't Kill You which should be a shoe-in for Boston critics awards considering the setting. (See: Gone Baby GOne and The Departed)

It'll be interesting to see what happens, this group has a history of rewarding the right people that Oscar later overlooks (Liotta in SOMETHING WILD, Pacino in DONNIE BRASCO, Langella in STARTING OUT IN THE EVENING)

Hey, Boston Critic dudes, does anyone have a screener to spare? Over here in Israel none of our wimpy-ass distributors picked up the local rights for "Che" so we'll probably never get to see it here theatrically. But I'm trying to catch up for my own Ten-Best list, due late in December, so if anyone has a screener they are done with and can Fed-Ex it over to me (COD, and I'll return as soon as I'm done watching), please be kind and drop me a line: yair@cinemascopian.com.
