If you want something you need to say to yourself "I want this thing," and then you have to make the moves. Outside of the realm of royalty, nothing is handed to anyone on a silver platter. And if you've (a) cumulatively earned your laurels, as Kate Winslet clearly has, and (b) delivered a phenomenally sad and searing performance, as Winslet has in Revolutionary Road , then you're entitled to stand up and do what you need to do.

The following was posted five days ago -- five days ago! -- on gofugyourself. The dialogue isn't grade-A, but some of it isn't bad.
Kate: I will not be Susan Lucci, Leo. I will not be the goddamn Susan Lucci of Real Acting.
Leo: I won't let it happen.
Kate: Nineteen tries. It took her nineteen tries to win the Daytime Emmy. I've had eleven tries and I haven't even won a fucking Globe. A Globe! They're not even real awards.
The IMDB says Winslet has been Oscar-nominated for Best Actress five times, and nominated for a Golden Globe Best Actress award five times.

A better analogy for kate would be A pacino. He was nommed like 9 times or something before he won for a horrid performance. Take comfort, sexy Kate. even if you don't win for something you deserve it for, you'll when in 10 years from some tossed off POS.

I wonder how Scorsese felt. He should have won in 1980 for Raging Bull. That awful Ordinary People won. He must have been frustrated as hell not to win all those years. I wonder if she protest too much, will the oscar voters be turned off? Do they visit websites like this one and similar ones? How long will it be before Leo wins one? To me it seems like who kisses the best ass wins. A little cynical, I know.

Reedyb that episode might actually be an excellent reason she'll probably be doubly snubbed again. I think once you mention it you're acting like you deserve it, and then they make you wait.

I don't think it's ALL about the ass kissing. DDL didn't do any of that last year. He just gave the performance of a decade (at least) and showed up to collect every award there was to give out to an actor for anything.

Yeah, ORDINARY PEOPLE isn't awful, but it's picking that over RAGING BULL is like picking DANCES WITH WOLVES over GOODFELLAS. Feel me?

Winslet will win Best Actress this year because there's no clear frontrunner, so it's an easy give and the default choice in her category (she's the only contender who will have the "overdue and never won" credentials). What will be interesting to see is whether or not she will be nominated in the Supporting category for The Reader, and whether such an occurrence will lead to a case of voter indecision that could possibly result in her winning a history-making 2 Oscars in one night.

Longrunner...I say it's how well you kiss. You have to pick the people/ass that is best for you, because why waste time on a person/ass that dosen't help you out in the long run?
Phatang...Really? Ordinary People is better than Raging Bull? OP is like a bad made-for-tv movie. You must dislike DeNiro/Scorsese quite a bit to admit that OP is better. It's not that...is it?

Pacino's performance in Scent of a Woman is hardly horrid. He plays it big and over the top, but that's how the character is written. The movie is of uneven quality, with sentimentality and a weak central performance by Chris O'Donnell. But Pacino's command of his character never wavers for a second. Perhaps in light of his later performances, the "hoo-ah" stuff seems an unfortunate turning point in his career. But looked at by itself, Scent is a strong piece of acting.

Winslet: Damn, entitled much?????
How much more do we need to suck this chick's ass? Yeah, yeah, yeah, she's THE GRAND DAME OF ACTING OF ALL ETERNITY, THE GREATEST ACTRESS EVER...
Fuck all that; She's very good, but between her rabid fanbase of stuffy critics, gay men, and EngLit chicks who aren't that hot, you'd think Winslet was A HIGHER POWER COME FORTH TO EARTH TO SAVE OUR PLANET THROUGH HER ACTING.
And no one yet has called out that "Real Acting" crack? How condescending and arrogant.

Aren't you going to mention how SUPER HOT & SEXY she looks in that pic?
KW could make those gay men who adore her STRAIGHT, and those shy EngLit chicks wet their secret LESBIAN PANTIES for this HEAVENLY CREATURE.
Fuck all this acting talk; Winslet's SCORCHING bod OWNS your ASS.
