I'm sorry, but when Rep. Gary Ackerman essentially called Caroline Kennedy the Democratic Sarah Palin, a voice within begrudgingly admitted that he wasn't far off. Kennedy has been acting way too timid and reclusive and un-Kennedy-like to be handed Hilary Clinton's Senate seat. She just doesn't have the strength of character that people generally want from a big-time legislator, let alone one with her lineage and last name.

The lady is clearly unwilling to intellectually engage off the cuff. She seems wimpy. She lacks pizazz. I'm not detecting any serious gumption or intestinal fortitude. There's absolutely none of that Chris Matthews quality in her at all...none of that basic back-slapping, yaw-haw, gregarious, chug-a-brewski-with-the-proles quality that a good politician is supposed to have or at least simulate on the campaign trail.
Between the Palin comparison, her hide-away "listening tour" of upper New York State and recently declining to release her financial background, I think Kennedy should just pack it in. She doesn't have it. I love the idea of a strong, bright, compassionate woman with a marquee name serving as New York's Senator, but Kennedy doesn't seem to have the ability to stand the heat in the kitchen, and I really do think she's done at this point because of this.
Ackerman said "Kennedy's name and family wouldn't, and shouldn't, be enough to get her appointed to the U.S. Senate seat that Hillary Rodham Clinton will vacate once she is sworn in as secretary of state. Everyone knows who she is, but I'm not sure what she is. Eventually she has to get in the ring and face the public.'"

No, she isn't and only an idiot looking for a sophomoric, glib hook would compare the two.
Because everything you claim Kennedy lacks, Palin had in spades. That was ALL Palin had, as she clearly lacked any intellectual curiosity.
Again, let Patterson appoint her and New Yorkers will get two trail periods to see how she shakes out.

Whatever Palin's level of intellectualism, she been a mayor,. a state official, and so far a successful governor of a state. with a very high approval rating. Caroline Kennedy is none of those things, and wants a Senate seat because of her last name.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but Sarah Palin and Caroline Kennedy (as well as Hilary Clinton) all share one glaringly obvious trait. And, frankly, in the HE universe, that trait is all that matters.

Harvard Law grad, Constitutional scholar, best-selling author of TWO well-reviewed books on the Bill of Rights and on privacy... Mr. Wells, are you kidding? As badly as her bid for that Senate seat has been organized -- no one denies that, so far it's been a horrible fiasco -- Kennedy has intellectually NOTHING in common with Palin. Mr. Wells, Palin thinks that "under God" in the Pledge comes from the Founding Fathers and can not name a SCOTUS decision besides Roe v Wade. Please, Mr. Wells, please. If Kennedy = Palin then Rear Window = Battlefield Earth

No one suggested that she did. Just attributing her recent manner of dodging questions and debate as Palinesque. Palin didn't want to engage the press or run on her record as a public official; she hoped to coast to office on her stage presence and one liners. Kennedy similarly doesn't engage the press, isn't running on her two books (?), and is rather hoping to coast in on footage of her on dad's lap.
Why the refusal to see an association?

These are two very different critters. Palin benifited from the McCain campaign's obvious need to prevent her exposing her vulgar stupidity. Kennedy is American Royalty and if she can get the job via her title, works and reputation, why should she engage the press? The other potential appointees aren't being pursued as she is. Similar mission, damage control, but different categories of candidate different offices, different selection methodolgy. Not a fan of Kennedy...just don't think the speculation rises above the 'gravitas' argument over Obama.

Yeah none of that great Matthews quality that will have him getting his ass handed to him by Ichabod Spectre while Caroline is cruising to a special election victory in 2010.

And not expecting it to be handed to her, just because of the Kennedy name is a bad thing, because...?
"She just doesn't have the strength of character that people generally want from a big-time legislator, let alone one with her lineage and last name."
Remind us what character Hillary showed during her years a Senator, Jeff.

I thought that's what you hated about McSame.

If successful means ripping off the state for a bridge to nowhere, sure.

She did debate. Rather well, by most accounts.
If Palin ran for Senate (and she might in two years), no one would question her credentials for the office.

The relentless sexism and misogyny against Senator Clinton and Gov. Palin in this website is shocking.
Supporters of the Messiah, inlcuding Jeff Wells, have trashed, demonized and dehumanized both women for the simple reason that they ran against the Messiah.
Hillary Clinton ran and got elected twice as senator by wife margins. She has been a popular senator.
Gov. Palin has been elected mayor and gov. She is a popular governor.
This simple fact is simply not acceptable to the cult followers of the Messiah. They must be trashed and marginalized, called the most vile sexist names.
I don't want to be around when the day comes and and people wake up and find out the Messiah is just another political hack from Chicago, knee deep in corruption.

And you know this how?
Kennedy has NOT written two books. Her books were ghost written. She simply put her name on them. Besides they are elementary civics books, not exactly socratic dialogues.
Other than that she has been a pampered socialite all her life, not even bothering to vote.

Palin did well by most accounts? If you rely on 51% of your total from GOP shills, maybe.
no one would question her credentials for the office (at least among amnesiacs who can't remember the Gibson/Couric fiascos).

Nan: If Hillary's hubby didn't move to NYC, and if Hillary divorced Bill over Monica, do you really think she would have won by a wide margin? Also, Palin lives in an area with a smaller and more rural population. If she ran in NYC, you think she would win as easily as Alaska?

apples and oranges.
This is an appt. She will have to run twice in 4 years. Palin would have been one heart beat from the Presidency.
HRC ran against a no name junior Congressman, Rick Lazio, for Senate. If Giuliani had not been diagnosed with cancer who knows what would have happened?
Hillary never lived in NY until she decided to run for Senate. As a native NYer I have no issue with Kennedy being appointed. I'd rather see her get the seat than Andrew Cuomo.
Palin was rightfully criticized. It's wasn't sexism. Hillary on the hand was treated unfairly at times.
Palin and HRC are the same gender but that is it. It's an insult to even compare their experience as being the same.
Palin made Bush seem brilliant and worldly.
