Asked what he thinks the Obama administration "will do about Cuba," Che director Steven Soderbergh tells Politico's Jeffrey Ressner the following:
"What they ought to do is really obvious. Whether they'll do it is one of these questions in which you have a lot of people with certain beliefs controlling the dialogue, and therefore the problem is not getting solved.
"How many years are you supposed to give a bad idea? Would you stay married for 45 years to someone you hated? It's obvious what we're doing isn't working. The answer is [to] lift the embargo and flood that place with tourists, put the onus on them and call their bluff. The people of the U.S. are the best advertisement for its ideals -- not its government."

Soderbergh saying this actually makes me interested in seeing Che. I wasn't sure if he was a red sympathizer but I agree that the whole embargo thing with Cuba is silly and "old school". It would also push our influence into S. American countries like Venezuela which would in turn push crack-pots like Chavez out of their offices.

With the crack pots in Miami who nurse the piped dream that one day they'll get all their property back still controlling things because they hold power over South Florida politicians, the Cuba situation is only going to resolve itself when the Castro brothers die.
But if anyone was going to force this resolution, it would be Obama, but without any Elian Gonzalez level crises there is little upside in sticking his hand into this hornet's nest.
In the end, Fidel Castro has won. The exiles' insistence on isolation has kept the Western world's conspicuous consumption and freedom (the twins that have seduced others) away from the Cubans.
Because those that have a huge financial stake in exactly what Cuba would turn into are in the middle of this mess, Cubans have had to endure an additional nearly 20 years of Marxist-Leninist communism after every other such state has collapsed.

They have a very high literacy rate. Doesn't the U.S. want to drive that rate down by flodding the place with Harry Potter books? It is our only hope.

A woman came into the video store near me and asked for Che. The clerk didn't know what she was talking about. I told her that it wasn't in theaters yet. She asked when it might come out on video. "About a year from now," I said. She was disappointed, but it didn't seem like she was planning on actually going to a movie theater and seeing it there.
This is the target audience for Che.

I always thought it was hypocritical for Bush and Clinton to be holding higher standards against Cuba than they did with China. I mean, at least I can drink the milk in Cuba...

If Bilge is the best advertisement for the sarcastic, apathetic, stupid nation we've become then we, are, totally. screwed,
But seriously, having been out my mother's basement for a few years; I've traveled around our great nation and I can say for certain that a tourist is a tourist by any nationality.
