A guy just wrote me about this 500 Days of Summer trailer and asked what I thought of the finished film. I've had two chances to see it, I told him, but I've wound up doing other things because of my Joseph Gordon-Levitt problem, which is fairly severe. I don't want to get hung up on this, but his internally mannered acting style bugs the hell out of me. It began with Brick and intensified with The Lookout. For me, I mean.

speaking of severe problems, that narrator should be shot.

Yeah, is this the guy you get when you can't afford to pay for the big guns?
You'd think Fox Searchlight wouldn't have that problem.

I hate "Mysterious Skin" not because of his performance but because I actually sat down to watch it.

Aside from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre-style narration, I think this trailer looks great. Way better than I expected after reading the script. And I think JGL is one of the best actors of his generation. If only he'd work up the nerve to do Goat for David Gordon Green...

Who created this trailer??? It comes off like an unholy cross between a blaxploitation flick and LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE ... and that ain't good, folks.

Zooey Deschanel is dreamy.
My dad asked me for a movie recommendation and I was pissed at him so I told him to go see Mysterious Skin, which I liked. He left when the baseball coach asked to be fisted. He asked me why I would tell him to go see a movie like that and I said I was sorry. About a month ago he joined Netflix and asked me what movie he should put at the top of his queue. I asked him if he liked Vampire movies. He said yes, so I told him to rent Trouble Every Day. That's what he gets for not buying me a Range Rover. Selfish prick.
This movie doesn't look terrible. It looks insufferable. If quirk was a drug this preview would have made the entire original lineup of Voivod o.d.

Zooey Deschanel is the cutest, most darling thing on two feet. But honestly, that's why I only want to see her in supporting roles. A movie starring Zooey Deschanel is too much in one evening, like eating an entire box of chocolates in a single sitting.

My wife was in the room when I watched the trailer, and asked (slightly confused) "Is that supposed to be funny." I think that sums the trailer up well.

The only thing I truly loved Zooey in was All the Real Girls.
I wonder how Gordon-Levitt will be in G.I. Joe...

That trailer does make the movie look awful. However, while I certainly understand having an aversion towards certain actors, I don't think Levitt is "mannered." There are far worse actors of his age around, and choosing to do movies that aren't as risk-taking as BRICK, THE LOOKOUT or STOP-LOSS (I haven't seen MYSTERIOUS SKIN yet). Agreed, I don't understand him choosing to do the G.I. JOE movie, but that's another story.

Looks like a hipster remake of Xanadu. And no one that young hangs out in L.A. anymore, unless they're in a gang and/or dealing drugs.
action: He's supposed to be Cobra Commander, so I'm assuming you won't even see him behind the mask.

I had the unfortunate (and unplanned) experience of watching THE HAPPENING over the Christmas holiday. Cute though she may be, Ms. Deschanel gives one of two of the worst screen performances I have seen in a VERY long time in that picture. I'd sooner sit through a marathon of BRICK/MYSTERIOUS SKIN/HAVOC/MANIC than relive that again.
