Condor Ghosts

In Three Days of the Condor, Robert Redford's Joseph Turner has forced Faye Dunaway's Kathy Hale to miss a New England skiing rendezvous with her boyfriend and lie to him in the bargain. Now that they're saying goodbye, Turner wonders how it'll all play out when she finally goes north. Turner. Your boyfriend...he's a tough guy? Hale : He's pretty tough. Turner: What will he say? When you tell him what happened? Hale: (sighs) Understand, probably. Turner: Wow...that is tough.

Hoboken's Erie Lackawanna train terminal, used 33 years ago by director Sydney Pollack as backdrop setting for the farewell scene between Redford and Dunaway in Three Days of the Condor

Also seen in Funny Girl, On the Waterfront, and Once Upon a Time in America. It's 102 years old but maintains its timeless quality.

I want to see a YouTube comparing Redford's fight with the mailman in Condor with Warren Beatty's brawl with the redneck in The Parallax View.

max Von Sydow is so great in that last scene of his. He should get an Oscar for best all time cameos. The guy is money in the bank.

The Erie-Lackawanna terminal is not used or seen in On The Waterfront. In fact, there are almost no scenic Hoboken exteriors in the film except the docks (which are now gone) and that park.

I'm with you on the fight with the "Mailman." When Jeff brings up movie fights, this one should get an honorable mention.

The church, too. As for the the Terminal, well, its 100th anniversary PDF got it wrong then. Ah, well, swap that out for The Age of Innocence, of which there's a photograph from the shoot.

"I prefer Europe." Best line in the movie, somehow.

In the '80s, Carly Simon used the terminal for her video "Tired Of Being Blonde."

Great place, wonderful atmosphere -- you know Frank Sinatra spent a lot of his youth there -- and with the addition of light rail along the waterfront to connect with NJ Transit commuter rail and PATH trains to Manhattan, the place now is really hoppin'.

The mailman fight was brilliant....compare it to the
incomprehensible garbage that passes for
"action" sequences today, slapped together by
ADD-afflicted shaky-cam hacks.
More importantly, "Condor" had elements
now utterly missing from today's action-suspense
films...real characters, a storyline, actually motivated reasons for the shootouts and chases
....not to mention a plot point way ahead of its time.....a rogue U.S. faction that wants
to invade the Middle East to secure our energy sources.....why, it's almost like "Dick Cheney-The Early Years"
...

My favorite was when Von Sydow handed Redford the gun and said, "For that day." Smart, grounded dialogue is always a treasure.
