London Times reporter Tim Teeman reported yesterday that an "ambitious plan to pump 'significant" profits from the film Slumdog Millionaire back into the Mumbai slums where the film is set has been revealed by Danny Boyle, the film's director.
"Boyle said investors, who are set to benefit from millions in box office profits, were planning to meet in London next week to discuss how much money to put into a special fund and how best to distribute the cash. 'We want to set it up as soon as possible,' Boyle said. 'What absolutely mustn't happen is that the money disappears, or people think this is a p.r. stunt.'"

Absolutely terrible Idea. Nice that Danny has a heart, but honestly does anybody remember the Ethiopian starvation crisus & We are the World? The people are still starving; okay? The same with Somalia and so many other poverty-stricken places in the 2nd and 3rd world. How exactly are they to cure poverty in Mumbai? Isn't that the Government's job? Why hasn't the Govt done it? Could it be because they DON'T WANT TO DO IT because it would cost too much money; and because the people are mainly MUSLIM?
Danny, bad idea.

So since We Are The World fucked it up, we should just give up? I'm sure smart people could put some money to good use...microloans or something. I don' t like Danny Boyle because he butchered what isprobably my favorite novel if I had to pick one, The Beach. Slumdog Millionaire is entertaining but very overrated and doesn't hold a candle to either of the movies I saw yesterday, 'I've Loved You So Long' and 'Ben Button.' Thank you.

Good for the Mumbai folk perhaps but from the film makers' part it's obviously nothing else but damage control. It's so transparent that it's sad.

At the moment, you'll have a feeling of proud. The articles by China's manufacturers are not only in a good quality, but also in a great many of quantity, and in a very lower price. For example, a same suit Made in China, might marked five to ten dollars that would cost one hundred dollars that made in Western countries. Many people couldn't afford for it but Chinese goods are most popular now than ever before. The popularation of Chinese objcets is almost covered the market place all over the world, including the European and American markets.
