Deal With It

After 30 Rock's Tina Fey used her Golden Globes acceptance speech to bash neg-head posters on TheEnvelope.com's message board, The Envelope's Tom O'Neil offered an apology. But why apologize for snarky mean things said by talk-backers? It's part of the digital rough-and-tumble out there. Apologize for your own words and deeds and that's all.

Everyone has a right to express their opinion, BUT... I think it is amazing and hilarious how some people out there are really obsessed with talking trash on respected figures (like Tina Fey) and they constantly go trolling on many Internet forums just to talk trash...

it seems those haters really have no lives of their own and suffer from a real bad case of jealousy.

good for Ms. Fey, she's a real great role model for women, female comics, female screenwriters, and women in the entertainment biz.

I was watching last night wondering when the Tina Fey backlash will begin. You can only go so many years winning in a row before the envy creeps in. I thought having Tracy Morgan speaking for the shows win was a stroke of her obvious genius and it will buy her a little more time. Don't get me wrong, I respect Tina, her show and all she did in bringing down Palin; it's just the nature of the beast.

I'm not a huge Fey fan and to be honest, I find her MUCH MORE funnier on 30 ROCK than she EVER was on SNL. That being said, I thought Morgan accepting the award was VERY funny, probably the highlight of the night, laughswise, but I only watched the clips.

Aww, remember the post-Oscar Diablo Cody backlash?

Isn't it so hilariously pathetic how many people are out there to talk shit on successful females in the film biz????

Tom O' Neil did what any famewhore knows is best to do in this situation; he's milking his product's name and it's moment in the limelight til the very last drop. And he's a determined whore. He'll use sycophancy and grovelling insincerity to do it, regardless of making any real connection with his cashcow, Tina Fey, in this instance.

Horrendous.

Diablo is a "one-hit-wonder" to this point. Not in the same league at Tina who has been at this for years and a part of the TV lexicon for more then a decade. This is not a gender issue, its a success question. How long can you stay at the peak before they try to bring you down (i.e. Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Andy Samberg)?

I second the notion that Fey's writing & performing on 30 Rock is gold, but SNL really stunk with her as head writer and has stunk as bad since she left.

Fey should just suck it up since being in the profession she is in and being a head writer at points, she has trashed hundreds of people herself. But I do agree that the bloggers should apologize themselves for their posts ... though arguing about a film isn't necessarily a serious topic.

Diablo is a "one-hit" wonder? Really? She got a TV show coming out on Showtime and she's got a few screenplays in the works.

I heard the same about Diablo and that another film is being made right now from a screenplay by her and by a "real" director too ... forget the details though.

either way, she's made her money from Juno and is gorgeous so she'll be okay no matter what.

Diablo Cody is a one hit wonder who will never be heard from again. She should call Nia Vardalos for advice on how to handle her coming irrelevance.

Do people really find Tina Fey that funny?

Not trying to be a dick here, I'm just trying to gather information, allow my sense of humor to "evolve".

I don't want to hear any sexist talk, either, cuz Sarah Silverman makes me pee my pants.

Okay, the feminist crap is getting old. There are plenty of successful women in the biz that don't get trashed publicly. Kate Winslet and Tina Fey come to mind. There are plenty of successful men in the industry that get trashed. Get it?

Diablo Cody may have a career now, but it's all due to hype. She'll be gone in five years.

I would say that only about 1% of people in this country are 'funny', in that they have an interesting perspective on the absurdity of things, personality, the ability to tell a story, and timing.

The other 99% try to get laughs by re-telling funny things they overheard or saw someone else do (or worse, talking in hack catchphrases from their favorite movie.

I don't trust 99% of people's opinions on what or who is or isn't funny, because if they've never made someone laugh, what would they even know about it?

@Brendan: You put Andy Samberg in with Tom Cruise and Will Smith? He's good, but the egg hasn't even hatched. Remember, Jimmy Fallon was supposed to be the next Mike Meyers back in the day, but what can you say about him now, if Fever Pitch was his last recognized film?

@Gordie Lachance: If you think that only 1% of the people in this country are funny, you live in a sad, sad world and should get out more. Most people have a sense of humor. I don't think we'd survive as a species without it.

I loved Fey the first time I saw her on SNL, loved it when Lorne Michaels made her head writer, loved seeing her mature as she got more confident with her role and even played some bit parts in skits. I got sick of her as she was marketed to death and started appearing in American Express print ads. Now I've warmed to 30 Rock, but liked it better when it was an ensemble piece rather than a star vehicle for Alec Baldwin. The less Baldwin we see, the better he gets. Like giving you too much Hannibal Lector... he's a good character, but I don't want to watch a whole movie about him, nevermind two.

I think Tina Fey is the greatest comedienne of our generation, and I hope that she continues to get all the accolades she deserves. But I'm a little upset to learn that I'm a crazy person.

I disagree with Jeff who's just passing the buck. He's morally responsible for everything we write and should apologize to every star for the crap we rain on them. And then he should publish the apologies. I reckon that'd be funny even to your special 1% Gordie.

YRG-

Having a sense of humor does not make one funny. And there was nothing in your post that was at all clever, witty or humorous, and so you've done nothing to prove my hypothesis wrong.

YRG - I was kidding with Adam Samberg, seeing if anyone was paying attention. But, he is the face of the YouTube generation with those 3 minute Weird Al songs and at his peak.

My point from the beginning is that Tina has been working at such a high level that its just a matter of time that the backlash begins. Maybe because she has the sister of the girl next door feel, that will never happen. I was just wondering.

I have posted on Goldderby for years and if I were to list 100 celebrities who get the most "hate" against them there, Tina Fey wouldnt even be on the list.

I dont understand the big deal. She seems to have wanted to give a funny speech more so than saying she was hurt by anything said there. As it turned out, one of the screen names she named on that site was a fan of hers who rarely posted about her at all.

I think people should be allowed to have their own damn opinions especially about public figures. Lord knows enough entertainment journalists kiss their a$$es enough.
