"I've seen many presidents come and go, but I've never watched a tableau like the one Tuesday, when four million eyes turned heavenward, following the path of George Bush's helicopter out of town. Everyone, it seemed, was waving goodbye, with one or two hands, a wave that moved westward down the Mall toward the Lincoln Memorial, and keeping their eyes fixed unwaveringly on that green bird.

"They wanted to make absolutely, positively certain that W. was gone. It was like a physical burden being lifted, like a sigh went up of 'Thank God. Has Cheney's wheelchair left the building, too?'" - from Maureen Dowd's 1.21 N.Y. Times column, called "Exit the Boy King."

Maureen should be careful about gloating too much. The way the New York Times is going she'll soon be catching her own flight...to Wichita for her new job.

I actually held my breath until the plane left. Then he was really gone baby gone!
Mr. Wells: Four years ago, when the election was lost, and we all felt so hopeless; I posted on this site that you are one of the truth tellers and we need you now more than ever. I wanted to thank you for being one of those "truth tellers" for these four years. Your site has helped me through until the election and again helped me get to yesterday's joyful celebration. Thank you.

Everyone in my office sat down to watch the Inauguration on television . . . and everyone stayed until Bush flew off in the helicopter. One of my co-workers stood up and said, "That's what I was really here for. Back to work"
And Mindless, didn't you hear? Trolling on Jeff's column is so 2008.

Whatever happens these next four years, I will never become as childish, petty, vindictive, disgusting, embarrassing, classless and sickening as liberals have been these past eight.
Seriously, you act as if Obama will snap his fingers and all the world's problems will end.
You act as though most of the policies that Bush started won't continue under Obama. And I promise you, many of them will. But no doubt, when Bush carries them out, he's Hitler. When Obama carries them out, there aren't enough words in the English language to describe how wonderful he is. Childish. Downright childish.
Hey Jeffrey, isn't there a film festival to cover?

Seriously, you defend a President who started a war by playing into paranoia and telling lies. The day that Obama does that, I will be the first in line to tar and feather him. Unfortunately for you, he never supported the war in Iraq, nor did I and a lot of people who were marginalized during the buildup. It's not a "Conservative" or "liberal" thing at all. It's about what many of us consider morally correct - that's childish? What's adult? Cruelty? Indifference? Intolerance?
That's just it, you don't get it. Nor do a lot of Republicans. So spare us your hurt feelings. Nobody on the right has had any problem slinging mud or pandering to the lowest common denominator. We're "Elitists" now we're "childish?" It wasn't an Obama supporter scratching shit into their face.
For me, these past eight years have been the worst, and I've seen a few Republican presidents in my time, so excuse me if I breath a sigh of relief at the sight of this incompetent, corrupt administration exit with their tails squarely tucked between their legs. You don't like, tough shit. You don't want to read about it, go read something else.

Excuse me? Did liberals bring up Clinton's affair, fire lawyers and scientists who didn't agree with them on an ideological level, screw cities out of funding for infrastructure improvements, and attack veteran candidates about their patriotism?
"You act as though most of the policies that Bush started won't continue under Obama. And I promise you, many of them will. "
So was Bush suddenly going to shut down Guantanamo or save key land from development?
