I was looking for a YouTube embed of Jeremy Piven addressing the sushi situation from the Golden Globes red carpet. Couldn't find it. But I found this hilarious (if old) Young Turks clip from 3.29.07, about Piven and his entourage visiting Nobu Matsuhisa. Cenk Uygur is a truly gifted raconteur.

I was impressed by the balls of Tiki Barber to address the Speed-the Plow/Sushi incident to Piven on the red-carpet. Piven is still sticking with his pussy-ass story it seems. If only he wasn't so amazing in the role of Ari Gold as it would be so much easier to despise him.

The only way for Piven to redeem himself is to succumb to his illness and die of mercury poisoning. I'm only half-joking.

Off topic, is hollywood-elsewhere hard on everybody else's computer too? I've got a fast computer, and have tried both the latest versions of IE and Firefox. The page takes an incredibly long time to load and scrolling down is next to impossible. I suspect it has to do with the ads and flash/java/whatever it is he's got going on all over the page. Out of all the websites I visit, this one is by far the worst in browser ease.

I was surprised by how adept Tiki was at giving a pleasant interview on the surface, while still being able to mine the truth out of the bullshit underneath.

NotImpressed1Yet: You're not alone. This site is overloaded with Flash ads that make my laptop (a 2006 MacBook Pro) sweat and whimper. At one time, I counted over 40 Flash ads on the home page alone. Things are better now, but the Slumdog Millionaire ads, which have been running here for over a month, remain an especially nasty resource hog.

Walhberg actually gave Tiki the in. Piven wanted to punch both of them, but even w/ the roid boost, would have been undressed by either party.
Anyone notice Piven's sensitivity during the telecast. When his name was announced as a nominee, a single weird cheer, possibly a sneer, quickly wipes the smile off his face placing him back under the black cloud of his own making. Not a good night for him.

Jason, the slowdowns did seem to coincide with the number of "moving parts" Wells added to the site. Guess I can't blame him for jumping on the extra ad revenue, but there's got to be a better way to optimize things.
DeafBrownTrashPunk, nope my system is clean. I've got pretty good internet hygiene and my computer runs very efficiently. Also, I've notice this problem on my home desktop, home laptop, and office computer. Why you don't have the same problem, I have no idea. I'd bet that we're experiencing the exact same thing and you don't perceive it as a problem.

NotImpressed1, it's possibly your server, or your ISP may be trying to screw you. I've had high-speed cable modem for years and had great connection speed -- until Time/Warner took over Comcast a year ago. Over the last 3 months, their service has gone to complete shit. From 5pm-9pm, it's even worse than dial-up. Today they sent me a flyer, offering new "turbo speed connection" for an extra $20 a month. Such transparent cunts (in the British sense).

artutobandini2 - I've got great speed on just about every other website I regularly visit, and even on the occasional torrent (which would be the number one thing that gets throttled, were they to do it to me).

The ads don't affect performance on every pc, but with the right combination of browser and anti-virus, anti-spyware or script-blocking it can be a major cpu resource hog. On my work pc I can switch from looking at the site in Firefox, my primary browser, to IE and see my cpu usage plummet from 100% down to a reasonable 10%. I don't blame Firefox or Jeff, I blame the idiots that write the obnoxious ad code. They know no one will refuse the revenue by listening to reader complaints, and that they can blame it on anti-whatever software + pc problems until it's too late to do anything reasonable about it.

Cenk Uygur has the rhetorical style of Kevin Smith (and Kevin Smith's characters), which means that he takes about 5 minutes to tell a story that could have been easily told in 1 in a much more effective way. Every time I see one of those young turks videos I don't understand why a show that is clearly trying to be more than a guy in a dirty shirt talking to his web cam tries to write their lines before shooting it and then taking off all the ahhhhhs and come onssssss

Thanks, Burma, for the hulu link. It looked like Wahlberg brought it up to give Piven s@#$ and put him in his place, but he seemed sickened by the BS Piven was spinning about his doctors forcing him out. On the other hand, if Piven really is poisoned, he's getting some really bad press here.
