Variety's Michael Fleming and Dave McNary are reporting that Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox "have settled their battle over Watchmen with WB getting some face-saving points, but Fox getting the equivalent of a movie star's gross participation.
"Warner Bros. gets the right to open its superhero pic on March 6th as planned, and the WB logo will be the only one on the film, sources said.
"Fox, on the other hand, will emerge with an upfront cash payment that sources pegged between $5 million and $10 million, covering reimbursement of $1.4 million the studio invested in development fees, and also millions of dollars in legal fees incurred during the case."

Only Fox would think to try and make a sequel/spin-off to Watchmen and expect any modicum of success. Fucking jackasses.
At any rate, glad to see this thing wrapped up and now we'll see if it was worth it.

I guess Warner's legal position wasn't as strong as they had thought. Maybe now all the screaming fan boys can put down their torches and pitchforks and stop their march down Pico.
The fact a settlement took place at all and the statement that was released should make it pretty obcious that Warner Brothers was the real fuck up here.

From http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i2079648bd224e2c811dd212eb2f623c0 :
Gordon is not a party to the case, but Warners is said to be after the producer and his attorneys to reimburse the studio for costs of the settlement. During the litigation, Gordon's then-attorney admitted that he negotiated the producer's 1994 separation from Fox without knowing about a 1991 agreement on which Fox based its lawsuit.

DZ: I refuse to click on your links until unless you provide a modicum of context. Write a slug for it, even if it's only a sentence fragment. And wherever the link goes, it better be related to the subject on the table. Nobody likes a threadjacker.

Well, let's remember that this is the same Warner Brothers that let their rights to Elfquest , another comic book property, lapse only to decide they wanted the property after all and had to pay for it a second time...

You're slamming Fox for even contemplating the possibility that WB will make sequels or spinoffs down the line? Even though they're already doing the Black Freighter stuff as a DVD companion movie? Man, that's awesome. The amount of fanboy RAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE that's emerged out of this lawsuit is hilarious, I can't wait to see what happens when the movie turns out to be a stinking pile.
