What He Said

Here's a Twitter text post from last night: "Remember not to forget [that Steven] Soderbergh's The Girlfriend Experience sneak-screens tomorrow at Eccles Theatre at 6:15!" Well, maybe. But when I asked Soderbergh about the Girlfriend Experience rumor yesterday morning he said, "Where'd you hear that?" From everyone, I said. It's just a rumor but it's been passed all around. "Really?" he said. So what is going to happen on Tuesday? I asked. "All I've heard is showing some clips and my doing some talking," he said.

I'm going to assume that there are some people out there who don't know who Sasha Grey is and are not familiar with her work. I hope that Soderberg was brave enough to utilize her natural talents as a performer, because if he did, we could finally have a film that blends, um, er, "adult content" with classic film craftsmanship in a way that we haven't seen before, although a lot of directors, Breillat, Winterbottom, Dumont have done it successfully in their own way. What was lacking from those films, I think, was heat, as the direction kind of lent itself to that typical, austere, almost deadened European eroticism. What I'm trying to say in a pretentious way is that Sasha Grey is hot. Seriously hot. Like hotter than any actress currently working. If you think Megan Fox is hot, you have no idea. If Soderberg can pull this one off I think we're going to have the first great sex symbol of the 21rst Century. I'm serious. I'm not saying this is a given, but there is potential for something amazing to happen. Maybe I've put way too much thought into this. I think I have.

Agree with you, MilkMan. Sasha is hot as hell, albeit in a super-slutty/trashy way. Something tells me that we're not gonna get any hard-core action with Sasha in TGE.

I think you're right. At the very least though, this might be one of the seminal movies about actresses and acting and the self in the social theater, as I'm assuming the whole movie is an allegory about that subject. The last two great movies about that subject were Mulholland Dr. and Ellie Parker. I love movies about acting, especially when they are done in an oblique way, even though Ellie Parker was anything but oblique.

With our luck, she probably has a no nudity clause in her contract.

Looking at Sasha's "previews" at freeones.com - I can only say that she's wasting her talent doing normal movies. This is like when Michael Jordan played minor league baseball.

Corey, stay away from Freeones. It's as bad as crack. And by all means, do not go there and check out any of Sadie West's work. That would just be too much.
