The Girl on the Train
At yesterday's screenwriter's panel at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, moderator Anne Thompson asked Dustin Lance Black (Milk), Tom McCarthy (The Visitor), Robert Knott (The Appaloosa) and Andrew Stanton (Wall*E) about their writing process -- when they write best, how they write best, etc.

What an excellent look into some very talented minds! We always complain about the hacks in Hollywood, but there are some genuinely talented people in the industry ... it's just so hard to see that sometimes through all the garbage.

Knott's, "I drink a lot." Funny. "Appaloosa" is a very faithful adaptation of R.B. Parker's book. I look forward to seeing what they do with "Redemption," the sequel.

Screenwriters are ugly and boring. Why do they keep putting them on panels??

OK -- from the editor's desk: If it's gonna be The Appaloosa, then it's also gonna be The Milk and The Wall*E.

Is there any more? I recall last year (or perhaps the year before) you posted an audio recording of the panel which was quite informative and entertaining.

I had never heard of Dustin Lance Black until that rather large shout out in the Milk trailer. Then I noticed his name as one of the lead creators behind Big Love ... which is an awesome program that so far has received no love from critics groups.

This was great. I like hearing about other writer's process.
