Bloody Wonka

This Funny or Die fake trailer for a movie called Gobstopper premiered at SXSW earlier this week without anyone being told it was a joke. Essentially a cross between Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Saw, it features a demented Willy Wonka (Christopher Lloyd) terrorizing a group of teens that come to visit his Chocolate Factory. Here's the website for the fake film.

Is it as funny and/or outrageous as the "giving head" scene in Reanimator (which is what it reminds you of right away)? Uhhm, no. The stand-out visual element is Lloyd's yellow teeth. Were they yellowed for the trailer, or are they naturally that way? A tiny bit icky either way.

The four leads are played by Zach Gilford (Friday Night Lights), Paul Rust (I Love You, Beth Cooper), Martha Maclsaac (Superbad), and Nicky Whelan. Paul Sheer (Human Giant) and Wee Man (Jackass) also appear.

I'm sure Lloyd's teeth must just be naturally yellow because I can't imagine they have any makeup effects that could accomplish that.

I'm guessing that there's a certain segment out there that found the on-the-nose meta-joke about "my boner" funny, but this is yet another example of something that must have seemed hilarious at the table read, but falls flat on screen.

My rule of thumb with Funny or Die is the more recognizable faces in the clip, the less funny the skit turns out to be.

Deaf: Actually, he uploaded it a few weks ago.

Anyway, I wonder why Lloyd doesn't do much acting nowadays.

What a great idea, horribly executed. Which sucks, because it's just a fun concept, and could have made for a pretty great little thing in more talented hands.

Yeah, that too... why is this of all things the first thing I've seen Christopher Lloyd in in ten years?

I don't dispute that Lloyd looks like David Gale in that get-up, but I don't think there's anything to indicate the resemblance is intentional. The phenomenon of a blond stuck on her back and leered upon isn't that particular.

Interesting enough, Christopher Lloyd's leprosy in THINGS TO DO IN DENVER WHEN YOU'RE DEAD was also natural.

I had almost the exact same idea a couple of years ago. Not literally Wonka, but a thinly-disguised version, taken to the logically harsh conclusion. I mean, the guy is nuts, right?

Now I'm glad I didn't bother to actually write the script. Think of all the porn I wouldn't have had time to look at. It would have been a tragic waste.

Did anyone watch the Jon Hamm as Lex Luthor thing on FOD? Not very funny, and the absolute worst bald cap I have ever seen.

Sad they didn't go all the way and show each kid getting tortured in the same manner as the movie. It would have been sweet to watch Violet get pumped full of blueberry juice.

I always thought SNL missed the boat by not having a skit of an apprentiece like reality show with Wonka in Trumps place, putting contestents through bizarre and dangerous competitions.

In college once, I had a screenplay idea in which a group of horny teens got trapped in a giant peach, each chamber of which contained a deadly torture device more horrific and complex than the last. At the center was a carniverous worm, and a pit of cyanide. There was a key to get out --if they could only find it. I see Brad as Pit.
