"Rush Limbaugh is the voice and the intellectual force and energy behind the Republican Party. He has laid out his vision, he's been very up front and I compliment him for that. He's not hiding. He's called for President Obama to fail. He has been up front and hasn't stepped back from that. And that's what he has enunciated. And whenever a Republican criticizes him, they have to run back and apologize to him and say they were misunderstood." -- "Rahmbo" speaking this morning in CBS's Face The Nation.

This is more than hate. This is the GOP being set up as nothing but Rush Limbaugh's foot soldiers. They can't displease the fat deaf stooge or he'll have his empire destroy them. This is Rahm daring the GOP leaders to prove they aren't Rush's little lapdoggies.
But with the new wave of GOP Hip Hop Urban-Suburban members arriving to shout "You be da man! You be da man!" at their rallies - Rush will truly be the smart guy talking.
Anyone think that Rep. Michelle Bachmann is trying to be a hot ghetto mess?

Michael Steele was on DL Hughley last night saying Rush Limbaugh was not the de facto head of the GOP, he was. Which leads me to believe Steele is either a delusional patsy or does not know what de facto means.

Stooge or not, the man commands respect because he's one of the last few, true moneymakers in any medium. I'm not a fan but have listened a few times but i don't agree with declaring so early in an administration, NO MATTER WHO the prez is oe what party is in control, that we should hope it fails. Yes, the Limbaughs of the world are set for life and will keep on making their hundreds of millions, but that's a dangerous mindset for the rest of us and it's scary knowing just how many people share his views and vote accordingly.

you can also say the same for Paris Hilton, Jonas Brothers, and Miley Cyrus. They've made so much money and have held attention of many people. Does that mean they deserve respect, too? I think not...

Given his recent heft, Rush would be great as Falstaff should anyone wish to remake Chimes at Midnight--with Obama as the new King Henry, of course. I'd love to see the renunciation scene, and the one that soon follows, where the King suggests that we forgive fat old Rush and attribute his rants to an "excess of wine"--or it's modern day equivalent.
The GOP: cold as any stone.

DBTP: i think you know that none of those tools you mentioned have ANY of the reach that Rush does. They don't have a following of voters after them who pay attention to what they say. NO, like it or not (and I'm not a fan), the man has to be respected for his reach if nothing else.

The other day I accidentally tuned into a Limbaugh show, which was followed later by Hannity. More than anything else, I was struck by how utterly STUPID these two men are. This is not run-of-the-mill ignorance, but a breathtaking stupidity, laden with straw-men attacks and smug, circular arguments and bluster that could only come from individuals who aren't aware of the gaping holes in their knowledge.
The Republican party used to wear at least a facade of intellectualism. Now they are the party of laughable, ignorant, angry militia-members-in-waiting. Who are their leaders? Limbaugh? Hannity? George Bush? Sarah Palin? Wow.

Political parties, especially in this country, are a joke as far as I am concerned. I belong to niether and don't agree with either. It's a lot worse for folks like myself who don't get in line with those in power or out of it. Yet, it's the only way to stay clear headed because there are loons on both sides of the aisle and it just gets so old listening to all of them yack and never get around to the real core issues that people like myself havbe to deal with every day.

It's interesting to see how fast the pro-Obama hope/change talk has reverted back to the demonization of Republicans. As if you're starting to realize how incompetent the new administration is, but can't admit it. Are you already that nervous about 2012?

I feel really embarrassed for all the decent, hard-working Republicans who are actually, you know, nice and intelligent; they felt so humiliated that they decided to vote for Obama because they were sick of morons taking over their beloved party.
There was a good article written in the NYT a few months ago about how the GOP used to be a decent, working-class party that was NOT about Christian values, but all that's gone now...

Er, Josh, I don't know that you're reading this right. I'm not so sure people who support Obama (60+ percent) have anything to fear from the 25-30 percent of rabid, facts-be-damned crowd that comprises the Republican base. Limbaugh may light the torches of the open-mouth-breathers, but he also alienates rational people who used to identify themselves as Republican.
It's not demonization you're hearing, it's ridicule.

I love the ignorant fools who continually remind us of Rush's brief addiction to pain meds yet utterly ignore Obama's use of cocaine. I'd also like to point out that the words "Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever" we're not spoken by a Republican but by a Democrat just a few, short decades ago.
So because I listen to Rush I'm an "open-mouth-breather"? What does that make the followers of Al Franken and Michael Moore? Oh wait, because you agree with the latter they're right?
Now who is the close-minded, open-mouth breather?

Josh: "It's interesting to see how fast the pro-Obama hope/change talk has reverted back to the demonization of Republicans."
Not as fast as that Georgia Republican who chose to kiss Limbaugh's ring, rather than think for himself.
"As if you're starting to realize how incompetent the new administration is, but can't admit it. Are you already that nervous about 2012?"
Yeah, man. Better food plant inspections and investment in crumbling infrastructure is really stupid. What *were* we thinking?
JT: I like how you claim you're "independent" and then go after the NYT. And the fact that you're now rail against a guy for being a fiscal conservative really shows how out of touch your party is with the rest of the country.
nyne: We didn't ignore Obama's use of cocaine. We just
figured it didn't matter, since you had no problems when Bush was snorting it-or being arrested for a DUI. As for Wallace, well, he might have been for segregation, but his party still managed to pass new constitutional amendments against it, while your party seems to want to bring it back for homosexuals.
