Maximus Hood

Responding to this morning's riff about Russell Crowe's Maximus haircut in Robin Hood, a guy who gets around and hears things wrote the following: "Apparently everything you'll be witnessing in Ridley Scott's Robin Hood -- the hairstyles, the music and the aesthetics -- will make it play like an unofficial sequel to Gladiator. This is no accident. It's a commercial mandate and was part of the scripting delay. Expect a lot of mano y mano duels."

After Body of Lies tanked it's no surprise Ridley really needs a hit.

He should make an unofficial sequel to Black Rain.

NICK CONKLIN 4 LIFE.

Come on, SOMEONE needs to get Douglas back into awesome movies with cool directors.

Well good, it's like the olden days. Too bad they couldn't get back more of the same ensemble. Richard Harris, Oliver Reed and David Hemmings aren't too busy these days.

LexG, in your long history of inspired or deranged ideas, that may be the most inspired and the most deranged. Except for why not an official sequel? Team him up with Ken Watanabe.

Assuming you believe that the Soderbergh-directed Liberace biopic, if it's made, won't count.

They shouldn't stop with Robin Hood. Make it a Ridley/Russell series of films akin to Quantum Leap, where Crowe plays the soul of a legendary warrior who dies heroically at the end of each film and is then transported into the body of a new legendary warrior and has swordfights n'shit.

Next up: Crowe as Gunga Din. Close cropped hair, n'all.

Well, we've already seen the images from the Sherlock Holmes pick, with him in buff, ass-kickin' mode, so this mindset is not really a surprise. What did Homer say in the Simpsons episode with Mel Gibson...."...but now, in whatever year this is, people want action..." That about says it. For better or worse (OK, worse), we live in a country where the 4th "Fast & Furious" movie cleaned up on opening weekend, so I'm guessing if your movie idea doesn't sound like something that would appeal to the average 22-year old lunkhead and his girlfriend looking for a flick on Friday night, the studios are just not going to give a shit.

Sorry, Lex, but I am eagerly anticipating Douglas' return as Gordon Gekko in Money Never Sleeps - does any one know if that project's still alive? Couldn't be more timely but Oliver Stone has to direct, again.

I'd be okay with Billy Ray--remembering his work on SHATTERED GLASS.

TVMCCA, is that true, is Billy Ray directing it? I think that would be fantastic, I loved Shattered Glass - probably one of the most underrated films of the decade. Peter Saarsgaard was amazing in that film!

Re Geoff's post:
it was just a preference on my part for Billy Ray if Stone won't be involved with MONEY NEVER SLEEPS.

The population of the entire industrialized world lives in a country where F&F cleaned up. It is doing better internationally than it is domestically. If your country is wired for electricity people are watching F&F.

I just saw a trailer with Michael Douglas playing Matthew McConaughey's uncle. Sad, very sad. Michael Douglas is too rich to stoop to that. He should be playing snarly shit, like an old guy's version of Black Rain and Wall Street.
