Bop Around

Marina De Van's Ne Te Retourne Pas, a Cannes midnight selection that looks/seems roughly similar to David Lynch's Lost Highway, stars Monica Bellucci and Sophie Marceau as (it would appear) the same character. The Paris Match cover caught my attention as I was walking around last night.

It took me a few seconds to realize who this is. Taken in Cannes either 28 or 30 years ago, I'm guessing. If I say for which films I'll be giving it away.

Poster art for Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables. Brute commandos vs. Hugo Chavez, or something like that. Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Brittany Murphy, Dolph Lundgren .

Expendables will still be good even as a PG-13. It'll mostly be shit blowing up and dudes getting shot like they did in the '80s. Not necessarily graphic gore, but plenty of explosions. Most of Sly and Arnie's films would be PG-13 these days anyway.

actionman: I haven't seen it yet but seen some ludicrously violent clips. Looks amazing. I've got it next on Netflix.

I suppose the thinking here is that Rambo was a one-man show and so they kind of need the gore and the splatter violence to fill up the screen. He is essentially killing faceless cannon fodder. But here the baddies are all big name action stars, so I guess we'll see more mano-on-bloke fighting and more spectacular deaths rather than the generic, expendable (no pun intended) enemies of Rambo.

I'd still prefer an R, obviously, but I will see a PG-13 regardless. It's going to kick unholy ass. I only worry that my expectations are too high and it'll inevitably disappoint. Kind of like Snakes on a Plane. We all thought it would be hilarious B-movie asskickery, but really it was just a bit shit.

I just did the right-click too, and come on! Wells is wrong. That actor didn't look like that even 30 years ago.

For one thing, his hair was always a lot curlier -- kinky, even. He never had those heart-throb Patrick Dempsey waves in his hair. And none of that Patrick Dempsey stubble business on the chin either.

But it could also be Guillame Canet, as several suggested. It ain't who Wells thinks it is.

Isn't the standard rule of thumb that you need to gross 2x the budget for break-even? $113 million against a $50 million budget (I assume that doesn't include P&A -- it usually doesn't) doesn't strike me as particularly profitable once you take out the exhibitors' cut.

Awesome concept. I know a buddy of mine makes use of templates. This stuff is great for if you append rows to a grid or list.

Also, it would probably be great for having some sort of "viewer". You could have a list of documents, and use jQuery to get JSON data, then put the data into the template. Something like viewing invoices or other formatted docs.

Just to be picky too, according to w3schools.com, the "value" tag is deprecated? But I guess it is still technically valid. I like to be "valid" when I can :)
