Actually it decreases wrinkles and flaws. The concept is that the light wraps around the subject from all angles, eliminating shadows caused by wrinkles. Fashion photographers used it prominently in the 90s and Playboy still uses it for many of its photos.

That Invaders From Mars trailer is a gas -- love the supersaturated color. Scared the bejeezus outta me when I saw it in TV as an 8-year-old. And since TV was black-and-white then, I've never actuallly seen that movie in color!
