So I'm going to agree with Jeff that the first one is flawed. I appreciate the money and effort spent on realism of the setting, but I think some of the characters are just stupid, and that the script makes them stupid in order to make the story "work". [For example, if I were the last crook, I sure as hell wouldn't be hiding out in my own apartment waiting for the cops to arrive. I'd be heading on my way to Mexico.] So I'm not surprised Tarantino ripped off this movie, because that's his style of writing, too. Plus, some of the characters feel redundant. I mean, that cop waiting in the shadows doesn't have any reason to be there, after the supervisor gets shot. I'll try to catch the remake this weekend and compare the two.
The best thing about the orig is that the guy playing the mayor looks like Ed Koch... who wouldn't actually become mayor until '77. It's one of the great '70s NYC flicks, either you go with that or you don't.
I guess using different music is in keeping with the tired practice of recycling scores from other movies in teaser trailers. But even in this conceit of making an old film look like a new film, I wish he'd used the David Shire score, especially since Edgar Wright horked it for the trailer to HOT FUZZ.

Great stuff. Now I want some old school trailers for new movies and/or for 8mm versions

Sorry I have no idea what the hell this is about. Is YouTube scrambled for everyone else, or is it just me?

Walter, you are the greatest!
Robert Shaw died way too young.
For the 70's...great flick...and the supporting cast...
top shelf.

Very clever. But if it was really a modern day trailer it would tell us the ending better.
