Drool
The Girl on the Train
A teaser for Michael Moore's upcoming financial meltdown doc, due on 10.2.09, preemed tonight in select theatres in New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago and Los Angeles. "The movie is not going to be an economics lesson," Moore told USA Today's Anthony Breznican earlier today. "It's going to be more like a vampire movie. Instead of the main characters feasting on the blood of their victims, they feast on the money. And they never seem to get enough of it."
"Hi, I'm Michael Moore," the teaser narration begins. "Instead of using this time to tell you about my new movie, I'd like to take a moment and ask you to join me in helping our fellow Americans. The downturn in the economy has hurt many people. People who have had no choice but to go on government assistance, yet our welfare agencies can only do so much. That's why I'm asking you to reach into your pockets right now and lend a hand.
"Ushers will be coming down the aisles to collect your donations for Citibank, Bank of America, AIG, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, and a host of other needy banks and corporations. Won't you please give generously?
"Now, I know what you're thinking, 'I already gave at the bailout'...and I know you did. But even if you've given in the past, give some more, it'll make you feel....good."
The lights came up and a team of eight or nine kids in white T-shirts that said "Save Our CEOs" came down the aisle to collect money after the teaser showed at Manhattan's Leows' Lincoln Plaza. Believe it or not, I saw six or seven women actually reach into their wallets and give a buck to the volunteers. Don't they understand they're participating in their own humiliation by doing this? It's a joke, for God's sake.
The untitled pic takes a comic look at what Mooore calls "the biggest robbery in the history of this country" -- the massive transfer of U.S. taxpayer money to private financial institutions.
"If you go to see my movies, even if you don't agree with everything in the movies, you're going to have a good laugh," Moore told Breznican. "I want them to walk out at the end saying 'Wow, that was something!' And in this case, maybe they also walk out asking the ushers, 'Um, excuse me [but] where are the pitchforks and torches?' "

There was a better CEO spoof a while back on youtube which was done Sally Struthers style, but I can't find it.
Anyway, for some reason, they're calling this a mullet.

Perhaps Michael could help regular Americans by selling one of his mansions and donating the money to help the less fortunate.
Naaaah. Just kidding Michael!

His MEN IN BLACK-inspired teaser for THE BIG ONE was funnier: "Which one of you keeps raising the prices of movie tickets?"
That being said, does this man have any credibility left anymore? I'm a lefty and I don't want him on the team anymore - he needs to go away.

Like him or hate him, I really want Moore to go after these guys and, even more, I'dlike to see him light an actualy fire under the American people. They are the most complacent bunch cud-chewing morons on Earth, a generational blight on the spirit of fighting tyranny that the Founding Fathers had in abundance.
It would be hard to imagine people like Washington and Franklin plopping onto the sofa with a bag of microwavable popcorn and watching American Idol slack-jawed while their country is fleeced financially. But that's exactly what is happening right now. Any past generation would have these guys and their cronies in the government swinging from a bunch of trees ... this generation has no guts or brains.

My sister has worked at AIG for ten years. If some of you knew what the people who work there think about the American public you wouldn't need a Michael Moore film to rile you up. The level of contempt is breathtaking. These are arch-Social Darwinists. Their feeling, boiled down to its essence, is this: WE DESERVE EVERYTHING, THE REST OF YOU DESERVE NOTHING, IF THERE WAS A LEGAL WAY FOR US TO KILL THE REST OF YOU WE WOULD, BECAUSE WE ARE SMARTER THAN YOU AND STRONGER THAN YOU. Any displays of remorse you see from anyone involved in the market collapse are purely for show. The only feel bad because they got caught. In other words, we are dealing with sociopaths. Remember that. They might look like businessmen, but underneath they are dyed-in-the-wool psychos. I'm not joking. The system we all live under and believe in and dream about conquering is run by madmen, just like every other political and religious system in the world. Ours is no different.

I am quite frankly stunned at how some people hate Moore. If you don't think "Sicko" was an important film you clearly don't have a clue. Health care is the next bubble to blow up in the country. The guy is a solid voice of the everyday man yet so many misguided and hate filled people lable him an opportunist and worse. All his films have had merit unless of course you make 14 million a year like Sean Hannity. Thats an accuate figure by the way! He makes that money suckering in a crowd who thinks they will be as fortunate. Believe me you won't be. Its Joe the plumber syndrome. GO GET EM MOORE!

Moore would serve his cause better if he laid low and behind the scenes, like Errol Morris.
Problem is, he pontificates to any camera or microphone within shouting distance and makes himself part of the story, which dampens his message because, as it turns out, he's a big hypocrite. Limbaugh is not a good comparison. He presents himself as the pampered, rich, cigar-smoking, SUV-driving fat-cat that he is.
Moore presents himself as an "aw-shucks" working class man of the people, when, in fact, he's loaded to the gills and he lives a pretty luxurious life style. (Not to mention he owned stock in Halliburton)

But it's ok when McCain and Bush do that kind of thing, right?
"(Not to mention he owned stock in Halliburton)"
That didn't seem to bother you when Cheney did, too. At least Moore's willing to speak out, even if it means ruining his stock value. I'm still waiting for Bush to donate all his grandfather's nazi war-profiteering money to charity.

a) since when were we talking about Cheney?
b) how do you know what bothered me?
c) of course Cheney had stock in Haliburton, you moron... he worked for them.... (then got rid of the stock, as is required by law, when he ran for VP)
Congrats on completely missing the point.
Oh my god, I'm arguing with DeeZee..... I might as well be at the park yelling at squirrels.

He may have gotten rid of his stock, but he still did their bidding and allowed them to poison our soldiers' food and electrocute their showers.

It all boils down to this.
The social changes Michael Moore has been trying to effect - have not happened. Health care is still fucked, Bush got re-elected, guns are still all over the place.
Nixon was able to ruin Alger Hiss without ever proving that Hiss was a communist. All he had to do was prove that Hiss lied. It's the same for Moore. The public can easily disregard anything Moore puts in his docs because it's been proven he distorts facts and footage to create a more "entertaining" film. Yes, he's challenged people to prove anything in his films aren't true, and they can't. But they can prove that he's fudged them, and that's enough to make his films easy to dismiss. His skills as a filmmaker have ruined his credibility as an advocate.

Hoyk: "Health care is still fucked, Bush got re-elected, guns are still all over the place."
Change takes time. Our government is finally acknowledging that the current form of health care is a failure; Bush didn't do much better in Ohio than in Florida; and there's only so many shootings the country can take before it closes that gun show loophole. As for Moore, his movies still make money, just not the big money of F 9/11; and the latter film only did well, because of how they hyped up the controversy of it being "too hot to watch". No, it didn't change the 2004 "election", but that's only because Bush was able to hide his mistakes long enough to scrape by against Kerry. But the Moore-haters will still have as much of a tainted legacy as the Republicans who tried to impeach Clinton.

'it's been proven he distorts facts and footage'
It's certainly true that those opposed to Moore's documentaries want the people to believe it's been proven.
And when you consider his targets, their power and access to PR firms and the media, etc. it isn't terribly surprising that they can claim some effectiveness in their smear campaign. If you think Guptha & CNN proved that Moore distorted anything with the hatchet job they did on Sicko, then you are the target audience with which they can be effective.
The fact that we do not yet have Single Payer National Health Care or effective gun control, or even that Bush won is not due to Moore's ineffectiveness as a POV documentary film maker--that's putting rather a large burden on a film maker. How many films, books, television broadcasts etc preceded the Civil Rights Act? Are you going to claim that they wasted their time and should've done what Lee Harvey Oswald did in order to get what they wanted?

The mainstream media - print, television, film, publishing - distorts the facts and uses editing to its advantage just as much as Michael Moore does, and it does it on a daily and yearly basis. Anyone here ever heard of the Monoform?
