I think it will probably be good, but not great. It will be Best Picture nominee #7 (of 10) and Ms. Swank will likely get a Best Actress nomination (unless, the movie stinks of course).

The role Swank was born to play, and the movie that America was created to ignore. I think in the end, her story to the masses is one of frustrating failure. a small percentage will always elevate her status, much like they do with Alexander Supertramp, but that percentage translates to small box office.

My verdict is that I don't watch trailers anymore. They give too much away and show all the cool shots. I highly recommend this approach. Trailers are fun to watch but I'm really glad I started doing this.

Is it wrong of me to say Hillary looks more mannish in this than she did in "Boys Don't Cry"? OK, it's definitely wrong, but I'm just saying. This looks absolutely perfunctory - plucky protagonist, mentor who believed in them, doubting mate...the whole nine yards. Still, it certainly could sneak into the Top 10 since it has that sheen of prestige to it, and people will sympathize since she did actually crash and die. I just think I may be over biopics is all, so I don't see myself partaking.

Christ, Ewan McGregor has been in a neverending parade of shite these past few years. I watched Miss Potter, foolishly, and it was genuinely one of the worst studio films I've seen. Absolute gash, and he blatantly looked like he couldn't be arsed. What happened? He was ace as Renton. I think he doesn't give a shit anymore and just takes easy cash so he can bike around the place with his moon-faced, sponging buddy, Charley Boorman.

I still like Hillary Swank, and I'm a big fan of Mira Nair (PEREZ FAMILY and KAMA SUTRA notwithstanding). However, any film where Richard Gere isn't playing an asshole or a villain automatically gets a pass from me, so I have mixed feelings about this. And yes, the trailer looks generic, but yes, Amelia Earhart does deserve a film.

Imogen is correct. There are lots of Hwd actresses who are extremely "not attractive", and I think about Meryl Streep and Julianne Moore and others, but they can act their arses off. We don't need blond blue eyed, straight teeth Kathryn Heigl to know that women who are not blond-blue eyed-straight teeth can act. There are lots of black women who are "unattractive" who can act, Viola Davis being one of them.
In real life, if you see them up close, they are really pretty in person. The film makes them look worse than they are -- I know I have met some of them and been astounded at how well they looked.
I love Hillary Swank. She can act. Bad teeth and all.
