At last night's Republican fundraiser in Washington, D.C., Jon Voight, who hosted, said he was "embarrassed" by President Obama, that Obama's leadership would cause the "downfall" of the country," that "we are becoming a weak nation," and that Obama is a "false prophet." It makes me wish I was a big Hollywood producer so I could tell Voight to take a hike...kidding!

But seriously and honestly, what a grotesque and dedicated demagogue this once-beautiful actor has become. Where does he get this stuff? "Embarassed"?
Remember what he said last summer? That Obama "has grown up with the teaching of very angry, militant white and black people: the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Louis Farrakhan, William Ayers and Rev. Michael Pfleger? And that "we cannot say we are not affected by teachers who are militant and angry," and that "we know too well that we become like them, and [that] Mr. Obama will run this country in their mindset.
"The Democratic Party, in its quest for power, has managed a propaganda campaign with subliminal messages, creating a God-like figure in a man who falls short in every way. It seems to me that if Mr. Obama wins the presidential election, then Messrs. Farrakhan, Wright, Ayers and Pfleger will gain power for their need to demoralize this country and help create a socialist America."
Commenting on Voight's 7.28 anti-Obama article in the Washington Times, Variety's Peter Bart wrote that while he may "appreciate Voight's fervor," he worries "about his intellectual equipment."

The organized conservative party likes to keep their people in lockstep with the message, which is easy to do because blind loyalty is their only virtue. They see whatever the 'opposition' is doing and develop a code to defeat every argument. When left to lead - let's say in year 2000 - they fabricate a war and turn a blind eye to the all-night poker party on Wall Street. Every conservative talking head has the buzzwords dripping out of their mouths ("socialism" "weak security"), but with no new ideas. Tone deaf. Look around genius, people feel screwed and they just want answers. If you only have criticism, nobody cares. Being a red ass only works when things are going relatively well, otherwise you just come off as another part of the problem.

Honestly, it seems sometimes as if being a right-winger, which basically means putting the highest premium possible on respecting authority and showing loyalty to your own and being fearful of other tribes and colors and creeds, is just a chemical or genetic or biological thing. Like being gay. But Voight was a flaming liberal in the late '60s and '70s. I have to presume that his "intellectual equipment" is a significant factor in his having morphed into a rabid diatribe-spouting conservative.

I set up this account for one-time use because I believe it's nobody else's business as to how someone votes, even if that someone has a HE alias.
I am a registered Democrat who stopped voting Democrat in 1992. I believe it's true what someone once said said about how if you're not a liberal when your 20 you have no heart and if you're not a conservative at 40 you have no brain. Felt America was getting force-fed Clinton (who I just didn't trust), seduced and abandoned by Perot, ended up voting for Bush. Never voted for the winning Presidential candidate until 2000, and again in 2004. Voted for Obama in the primary, but not in the general. He won, and I said, "OK. Let's see how he does." So far, no complaints.
Depending on who the Republicans put up as an opponent (no one looks good right now, but 2012 is a long way away, who knows what can happen between now and then), I can see myself voting for Obama in the next election.
Listened to Rush a lot in the last 15 or so years, Hannity not so much. Not a big fan of cable news either way. Rush drove me away because over the last 6 months, his attitude changed from "if things go bad, I'm just not going to participate in it, I am the master of my fate" to a bitter "that's it, we're doomed" attitude.
I don't listen to Jon Voight or Sean Penn or Alec Baldwin or Dennis Miller when they tell me what they think about politics. I want what's best for the country in general and me and my family in particular. And I feel bad that the shitstorm that occurs when people on both sides of the debate talk about how they feel is so thick sometimes that I feel it necessary to generate an alias for a webpage alias.
Looking forward to opining to you under my primary ID in the near future.

Hypocrites.
Voight can speak out all he wants, but he looks like a fucking idiot. Obama was basically handed a car with a dying engine, flat tires, and less than a quarter tank of gas. He's being asked to drive that car across country in order to get it fixed.
But yeah, Mowkeka and Voight, it's all Obama's fault. Let's do our best to forget the last eight years. They were terrific. Nothing to see here. Keep it moving. Nothing to see here. Under Bush's presidency everything was rosy. No attacks. No costly, regrettable, totally unsuccessful wars. No collapsing economy, that started in January, if my revisionist history is correct.

No, it's why idiot after idiot goes on-line and spouts thing that Ann Coulter says without even a whiff of "fact checking", because if Ann says it, it must be true. Never mind that it isn't true, it must be, so it is.
(And, for the record, the bullshit poll you're trying to quote says that they enjoyed the sex that they had more, which is not necessarily the same thing as a better sex life.)
Except happier. I will certainly grant that any poll conducted between Nov. 2000 and Jan 2009, conservatives were likely happier than liberals. Of course, the country as a whole was tanking, but you guys sure were happy about it!

Well, I did miss that point, although I'm not sure you actually made that argument in your initial comment.
But by and large, yeah (although I think you're vastly overstating your point). The extremes on both sides (Hannity, Olbermann) will support the idiots they agree with and blast the idiots they don't. More moderate types tend to roll their eyes at the crazies on the other side and quietly hope that the crazies on their side just go away.
Your initial "hypocrite", though, sure sounded like it was directed at the Josh Masseys more than the Rush Limbaughs. Which, in addition to being over the top, would be more than a little hypocritical itself.

We all have shit we need and would like to be fixed.
In four years, shit in TWO years, maybe even by December, if these issues haven't been addressed, then more power to you. Right now, at least you and your partner have jobs, yes? Or one of you does. My brother, who has two daughters and is a single parent, was just laid off from his company in March. You'll excuse me if I am praying for him to be a benefactor of a new job, hopefully soon, so that he can take care of his family. If these jobs created (looks like he will get one of the new positions in Orlando) by this President help him, well, this man is doing okay by me. What is important to some is less important to others, depending on your circumstance. Hopefully this president, IN TIME (and get ready for the battle he will face in what you need for him to do, Todd) will remember his promises and keep his word.
