Matters

A screenwriter friend has heard that Judd Apatow's Funny People is either based upon or partly inspired by "a profound crisis of some sort that changed Garry Shandling and sent him into the pursuit of Zen and other pursuits/remedies. He's one of Apatow's closest friends and was a major shit during the making/ heyday of HBO's Larry Sanders Show. Not that there's anything wrong with that."

I feel so much better knowing that Apatow's nepotism has such strong roots.

Hope you saw that Avatar presentation in Hall H, Jeff. It's really one of the prime reasons to go to these silly Cons...

The DVD extras on Not Just the Best of the Larry Sanders Show are definitely worth checking out. Shandling was/is a bizarre dude. His talks with Sharon Stone and his ex-girlfriend were especially disturbing.

There is tons of free Larry Sanders goodness on Crackle.com for those who didn't know. Still one of the funniest shows ever, and it almost totally holds up after all these years.

Garry Shandling is a genious. Whether he's a prick or not, he's still awesome. The shows where David Duchovny has a man-crush on Larry Sanders are some of the funniest ever done in a 30 minute sitcom. Check out Duchovny's homage to Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct.

The Larry Sanders Show is the best comedy series ever, in my eyes. Prick or not, Garry Shandling is a genius.
