I thought at first that the N.Y. Observer's Sara Vilkomerson had echoed my view that Marion Coltillard's Public Enemies performance "is an award-quality nail-down," in part because "no dramatic actress in recent memory has conveyed as much intestinal steel." I was led to think so by an online friend who said she'd climbed aboard the Cotillard train, etc. But then I read her piece ("We Say Oui to Marion Cotillard") and realized all she was saying was that her "total and unabashed girl-crush" was going "stronger than ever."

Cotillard was great in PE, but was it anywhere close to her performance in La Vie en Rose? Nope. I just don't think there was enough for her to do onscreen.

The wife and I were set to see Public Enemies this morning, but she fell and sprained her ankle, so we ended up spending a few hours in the ER. I'm looking forward to seeing Public Enemies still. Cotillard is an unknown quantity to me , since I haven't seen any of her movies. I am going to Netflix the Piaf film in a few.

LOVED Cotillard in this. The Piaf performance is brilliant, but this one is...different. For me, more naked and as present and real as any performance this year. I found myself missing her when she wasn't on screen...though I am still waiting for Cheri and Pfeiffer's much lauded performance. Anyone (Jeff?) seen it?

The French actress was awful , she was as bad as the film itself besides not being that attractive. Dont get me started on how bad Bale was.
Mann has lost it.
When you look as good as Gong Li, who cares how you sound.

PUBLIC ENEMIES is the best Mann cops-and-robbers genre film since HEAT.

I have never seen a movie starring this woman before, but she is fuckin' magnetic. I can't remember the last time a woman's beauty took me so profoundly in a film...perhaps Match Point...or Elie Idol (google her).

Maybe it's just that she reminds me of Regina Spektor, whom I have long had a crush on...

Cotillard's wonderful, and her "fat boy" speech in Enemies is the kind of transcendence that keeps movie lovers ALIVE, but she's still playing the goddamn girlfriend character here. The character that's all edge and self-sufficiency in the beginning, then wimpery dependent mush by the end (save for the interrogation scene, which is again, a miniature masterpiece). Added to that, she disappears for too long in a lot of the film.
Save for a desperate year in the Supporting Actress category, she won't be in the running.

You're wrong on every count, Hillbilly, and you can't spell your own name. Which is appropriate, I guess.
