It's actually quite a hilarious trailer if you imagine it was an action movie. It's money shots the entire time. Instead of fighting robots there are hot actresses showing their arses and tits and actors pulling impassioned gurns to highlight that This Is An Important Movie With Emotions In It. It's kind of genius if they're selling it to women who read Vogue and Tatler. The musical equivalent of Crank 2.

It's a little different, seems to be more Penelope and Marion. I'm now officially disturbed they don't show Daniel speaking of singing at all. Did he go too far?
But seriously, when has Fellini ever been associated with "box office gold"? I mean, when the most you can make with these kinds of flicks is Woody Allen dough, why bother? Harvey seems to be forgetting that the days of easy loans are over. Anyway, http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118006009.html?categoryid=13&cs=1
D, or fake D, this is based on an actually fairly established musical property of its own, there was a big revival within this decade. I'm fairly sure it's better known than you realize. That would require you to do research though.
In your rush to get a zinger you missed my point, Burma. That all it is is 8 1/2 refashioned as musical and it isn't showing anything as else to garner our interest hence my perhaps less obvious than I thought comment. Jeebus man.
The film book section at The Strand is amazing, but despite wandering around for hours in Manhatten I still did not see a descent dvd store. Today I will move to Midtown West for a day before spending the weekend in Baltimore. I had a great pastrami sandwich at Katz, but it was 15 bucks. I had a capuccino and a cookie in the Village and they charged 7 bucks. The money on the Metrocard is melting like butter in the sun. My feet are hurting and the subway is a freezer.
This looks kinda good to me, actually, and I will probably end up dragging the wife to see it with me. It looks like something that Bob Fosse might have done, had he not already done All That Jazz.
btwnproductions -- I have just started dropping posts here at HE over the last few days, but might've made reference to TF2 before I left for the honeymoon. it was the best piece of CGI-porn ever made. have seen it twice. the last 40 minutes are a tour de force of explosion-laced idiocy. bay is a fucking mad-man. to say that I loved the movie would be an understatement. its monumentally stupid but I expected that. wasn't there for story/writing/characters -- was there to see giant robots killing each other. the scene in the forrest was stunning. ditto the opening in Shanghai. watching the film on a museum-style imax screen really was a treat.
however, public enemies -- now THAT is the best film of the year. I know there's no point in even comparing bay to mann, but i was BLOWN AWAY by public enemies in a way that I did not expect. of course, being a mann film, I expected greatness. i just didn't think it was gonna be perfect in that way that it was. will be tought to top for me for best-of-the-year honors. i just don't get how mann keeps making one masterpiece after another.

This is 81/2 as a musical, best I can tell. Be interesting to see DDL in something even remotely lighter than his standard fare.
