Sharon Waxman's recent report that Universal tried to convince Judd Apatow to cut 30 minutes out of Funny People "is not true at all," the director-writer has told Movieline.
"They were always supportive of the length, and in fact when the movie was pitched, it was pitched as a movie that would be ten to fifteen minutes longer than Knocked Up -- that was part of the original presentation. Do they wish I handed them a 90-minute version? Of course. But I think they think that about every film that's made."

Serious question, Jeff: Is there an easier story for a film blogger to write than, "I heard XX got told by the studio they have to cut Y and they didn't!"
They seem to come out all the time, ranging from useless stuff like this to the (apparently) equally untrue GI Joe thing a few weeks ago.
What's to stop me from writing, "Apparently Parmount is already begging James Cameron to keep Avatar under 127 minutes. He seemed willing to do so but the success of his ComiCon presentation may give him ammo in his neverending battles with higher-ups."
How do I get some traction on this breaking story?

This is the first I remember reading this type of story (blogger reports that studio asked director for cuts, the next day the director denies that it ever happened). I found it interesting and believable.

David - Nobody would believe that Paramount would want to do anything to make the post-production phase on 'Avatar' any longer, giving even the slightest possibility that it won't come out this year.

Considering that Fox is releasing Avatar and not Paramount, it would be difficult to believe that story. . . .
