Time Spent

The InFilm gang during this afternoon's visit to Digital Domain, which is owned in part by Michael Bay, for those who didn't know.

The Academy;s Margaret Herrick Library is one of the most stubbornly analog mid 20th Century-minded institutions I've ever visited. I respect their rules and restrictions, but I did stop going there sometime after the beginning of the 21st Century, and I think this may have been one of the reasons why. That said, they have every single book ever written about the great Robert Mitchum. I could stayed there all day.

Re: the Herrick Library.
Mr. Wells, I guess you haven't spent too much time dealing with archives and rare book repositories. Those restrictions are pretty standard in the majority of places. Some do allow cameras and other places have camera stands where you can photograph material, but those are the exceptions.
There are copyright issues involved, among other things.

DeeZee:
Bay is a huge Cameron fanboy. He snapped up DD when Cameron sold it, cast Biehn and Harris in The Rock, pestered Harris for stories on The Abyss all the way through the shoot. Too bad he doesn't have 1/10th of Cameron's talent.

and deezee -- there aren't many other directors as successul as bay so I doubt he's worried about much.

You go to libraries expecting them to have what they're supposed to have. If something's not there because some asshole stole it, you'd pitch a fit. Hence, the necessary restrictions, though I couldn't take notes with a pencil and be able to read them later.

He's still a failure at actually having a legacy, much like the last President he allegedly jerked off to in TF 2. The only thing I imagine future movie-goers who see his "successes" will be wondering is, "What were our parents thinking?!". And any kids Bay has will probably have to apologize for their dad pissing on cinema.
