Drool
The Girl on the Train
The latest installment in Roland Emmerich's world-ending idiot franchise (20th Century Fox, 11.13). The height of putrid paycheck performing by John Cusack. A simultaneous appeal to the Biblical End of Days crowd and liberals convinced that global warming will usher in the worst. The usual nausea, in short.
But there's something about massive heaving seas that fascinates me. The CG looks better than it did five years ago in The Day After Tomorrow, and much better than the work in Independence Day. I hate myself but I know I'll be seeing this
There are real-life echoes, of course. Watch this series of iceberg-collapsing clips. Each one is accompanied by chumps going "whoaaaa!" or "Hey, I got it on video!" It's pure entertainment for these bozos. Not once does anyone say, "Jesus, you read about global warming and hear Republicans try to deny it's happening on the news shows but to see it live...wow."

Caught the viral campaign last night with the company advertising the lottery to get on the Ark. Pretty clever. Maybe this will ultimately end up being like the long-planned When Worlds Collide remake.

Emmerich's stuff is always a guilty pleasure, because the effects are pretty damn good.
Cusack's been taking paycheck jobs since Con Air. He used to be noble, but saw that it got him nowhere. Still wondering why he has so much more hair now than in 'Say Anything'. He probably went the McConaughey/Stiller route.

How is it not? He'll be paid handsomely and he'll be seen by a wide audience. He won't get a chance to particularly shine in it, but at least he's reminding people he still exists.
I love Grosse Pointe Blank and High Fidelity, but I do think that Cusack is somewhat overrated by Gen X'ers. His good films to bad films ratio isn't all that great.

Cusack is in greater need of a hit--a real hit--than at any previous point in his career. In the past, he's been able to get through fallow times on his "one for me" indie credentials, but he hasn't managed even a critical success since High Fidelity.

I'm surprised this won't be shown in IMAX.
When the teaser played before Transformers 2, the audience approved, loudly.
I think this, CHRISTMAS CAROL, AVATAR, TWILIGHT 2, and maybe even SHERLOCK HOLMES are the only movies this fall/winter that have a good chance of reaching $200+ million at the domestic B.O.

I thought that WAR INC. had a number of decent-to-good moments and should be regarded as Cusack's ALPHAVILLE (transferring his GROSSE POINTE BLANK character into a fantasy-based-on-reality realm).

Saw the trailer. Big Fat Meh. George Pal's estate should sue. And I knew there would be some Lower B / Borderline C-Lister star doing it for the paycheck and hopefully to step a few rungs back up the bankable ladder.
The world is ending, so why exactly an I supposed to care if John Cusack, his cute-kid-who-speaks-like-a-scriptwriter, and his no-doubt estranged wife get on a spaceship?
I've seen enough of these things. I know exactly how it will play out. I cringe at how tedious the inevitable Mayan Mumbo Jumbo Exposition; Military War Room Arguements With Extras Trying To Look Busy Staring At Computer Monitors; 'We Must Save The President' Bullshit Drama; and Overplayed Swelling Strings Reconciling Family scenes will be to sit through, so I won't, especially since the trailer showed the money shots anyway.
Remember after 9/11 when Hollywood declared these kind of movies a thing of the past? I LOL'ed then.

First of all, global warming isn't a left/right issue. It's a rich elite con artist/the rest of us issue. IT'S A FUCKING LIE. Al Gore is a scumbag, lying douchebag. End of fucking story.
Second, the visual effects for this movie look very impressive. I'm sure the movie will be really dumb, but I'll have to check it out regardless.

Emmerich is about the best in the world at this stuff, and he almost-always does it without a lot of self-aware winky irony. This will be the best POSSIBLE version of this film that could be made, and the good actors on-hand will likely come out looking good.
There's nothing wrong with enjoying a "money shot" FX porn movie so long as it doesn't actively INSULT your intelligence. Emmerich's stuff, excepting the Godzilla remake, usually doesn't. There's a difference between "silly" and "dumb."

Are those icebergs disappearing a lie, too? And considering the rich Republican elite con artists dumped us with a pointless war and trillions in bad loans, while letting New Orleans drown, I think I can trust Gore a bit more on the subject.

Sounds like you find some sort of satisfaction in this. Some pleasure. Glaciers melting and tidal waves destroying cities .... SEE, YOU MORLOCKS, I TOLD YOU!! LOL you mean the pointless war and bank bail-outs that all the Democrats voted for too, and continue to vote for now? Right? Is that what you meant? Last time I checked Obama was increasing the war spending and 24 trillion has been promised to the banking industry. With his rubber stamp of approval. Pull your head out, both parties suck.
I'm not even gonna go into the global warming, oh my bad, "climate change" (it's been changed by the governments public relations people) Since you call me a "denier" (the mass media's talking point phrase, lumping me in with the holocaust deniers, I'm also with over 35,0000 scientists so it's a big boat buddy) it's obvious that you're too narrow minded and brainwashed to reach.

O.K. I just can't let that one slide. First of all it's a complicated issue and don't expect you people stuck in the left versus right false paradigm matrix to even have the ability to read this article and process the information. Lol. But here you go:
"Satellite data shows that concerns over the levels of sea ice may have been premature."
http://tinyurl.com/ytzg4n
BESIDES the fact that much of the ice came back this year (GASP YOU MEAN THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA DIDN'T INFORM YOU? NO WAI) there's also a serious debate over what exactly is causing the alleged "warming" in the first place. Could it be the sun? No fucking way, the sun can melt ice? Are you telling me that the heat from the sun fluctuates over time?? And the carbon dioxide ice caps on Mars was also melting? How the fuck did my Landcruiser melt the "ice" on Mars?

Lol. You know, you'd think humans would learn. There's an old phrase in Texas, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, won't get fooled again!
This global warming hysteria/propaganda IS NO DIFFERENT than the Iraq had weapons of mass destruction bullshit you morons ate up willingly. Now you're ready for seconds, eh? You want to pay higher energy bills and carbon taxes to the rich elite so they can save the polar bears eh? Well ain't that noble. I'm sure Al Gore will donate a few dollars to a polar bear shelter after the carbon trading company he's invested in starts raking in billions of dollars. I know you sure as hell won't be able to afford after paying $300 to fill your gas tank. Sucker.

They voted for that shit, because they're stuck with Bush's mess. And most of them voted for the war the first time, because they were lied to by Bush.
"I'm also with over 35,0000 scientists so it's a big boat buddy"
Scientists with no actual credentials, other than being part of the coal and oil lobbies.

I didn't know taxing the rich is the equivalent of bombing civilians.
"You want to pay higher energy bills and carbon taxes to the rich elite so they can save the polar bears eh? Well ain't that noble."
Um, we're already paying higher energy bills, so they might as well go to energy-efficiency.
"I'm sure Al Gore will donate a few dollars to a polar bear shelter after the carbon trading company he's invested in starts raking in billions of dollars."
Last time I checked, he invested in an energy-efficient house.
"I know you sure as hell won't be able to afford after paying $300 to fill your gas tank."
Newsflash. That's what many working-class people had been paying each month last year, just because of those gas-guzzling SUVs.
