Ya Git

You need to wade through nearly two minutes of Ricky Gervais rambling on about his upcoming 11.5 Carnegie Hall gig, before he gets to the one funny bit. (Sorry, but a publicist claimed the video is "hilarious.") The show will be part of the five-day New York Comedy Festival (11.4 to 11.8). Tracy Morgan, Dane Cook, Bill Maher, Patton Oswalt, Andy Samberg, Artie Lange, Mike Epps, Bill Burr and Mike Birbiglia will also perform at "more than 10 venues," etc.

Bill Maher is a comic?

(I thought he just bitched about stuff)

I'm so happy about this New York festival. Really, I am.

Since there won't be a Comedy Festival at Caesars Palace this year, I guess they thought they'd do one in NY.

So that's why I'll be unemployed that week this year. TBS and / or HBO better not be behind it. Cheap bastards. No I'm bitching.

Gervais is a master at his schtick but Mike Birbiglia is a national treasure in my book. First time I saw him he reminded why funny stories are so much better than funny jokes. Hope he gets his due....

I thought Tom Hollander in IN THE LOOP was a much funnier version of Ricky Gervais.

That whole clip was actually funny-bit-free. I watched it twice to make sure. But Ricky gets a pass from me on this one because of those great "Extras" moments -- the one with David Bowie at the piano bar, the one with George Michael on the "queer bench." And so many others.

Seeing Ricky Gervais' live show last year in NY was one of the most disappointing entertainment-related experiences of my life. Up there with the Star Wars prequels. Horrible, dated shtick. I mean, REALLY bad including a bit about taking nursery rhymes literally.
