Last night's chat with Mother and Child director-writer Rodrigo Garcia went smoothly enough, but it was partly a technical disaster on my end. I forgot to take a photo of him for some reason, and the video footage I shot was accidentally erased during a file transfer I attempted an hour after we parted. But at least I have the mp3. I'd summarize what we discussed but my first film of the day -- Love and Other Impossible Pursuits -- starts in 17 minutes.

Slightly off-topic: this year's TIFF boasts the biggest ever Israeli slate, with some outstanding films showing ("Lebanon" and "Ajami", in dead-heat for the foreign Oscar ticket), two world premieres (thriller "Kirot" and sobber "Bena") and a couple of wonderful home-grown classics ("The Big Dig" and "Big Eyes"). Yet, apart from the controversy surrounding the City-to-City program, I've read nothing about any of these films on any of my favorite and significant website or blog. Any reason why? A de-facto ban?
