First Showing's Alex Billington is the first Telluride visitor to post a full-on review of Jason Reitman's Up In The Air, which he's creamed over. "I've just walked out of the first-ever screening of the film at the Telluride Film Festival, and I loved it," he begins. "It's everything I wanted it to be and everything I was expecting, even after reading Walter Kirn's book that it's based on.

"Not only is it Reitman's most personal film to date, but it's his most polished as well. I have so many things to mention about it that I just wanted to get down my thoughts before they fade away. It really hit with me on a personal level as well, which is why I loved it so much."

Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree with Ray on this one. While I love Juno to pieces, Tapley and Billington aren't the ones who can convince me on this one yet.

These festivals sure do work their magic though, huh? I mean, if these guys had watched this movie with a dozen other critics on a Tuesday morning instead of sitting four rows behind George Clooney at the world premier I doubt they would've been so deeply affected.

Wells, Ebert, Corliss, Dahrgis and others will likely respect this movie, but I can't see them "falling in love" with it. It's well crafted but after seeing it once I am in no rush to see it again, or see it on DVD, or even see the outtakes or bonus features. In my mind, it's a C+/B- effort, compared to the quite enjoyable and snappy "Juno" and "Thank You for Smoking." Yes, Reitman has "matured" as a filmmaker, but as anyone who has seen his daddy's latest movies "My Super Ex-Girlfriend" and "Evolution" can tell you, getting older (and richer and more asskissed) is not always a good thing.

God, this guy really DOES sound like Ben Lyons:
"If you travel a lot, you know all the finer details of checking in, making it through security, traveling light, all of that. And this film captures all of those details in such an amusingly accurate way that really connected with me."

Phatang: Clooney was not at the premiere. Jason Reitman was, but that's it. I'm never influenced by celebrities, I just thought it was a great film.
John M: Because I'm a big Reitman fan and have been excited for this for a while. I even openly admitted in the very first sentence that I've been anxiously awaiting it. "I've been waiting and waiting to see Jason Reitman's Up in the Air ever since it was first announced way back in May of 2008."
boltbucket: Have never ever seen Ben Lyons before he was kicked off the show... What I was trying to say there is that, if you travel a lot (like me, or anyone who does), you'll feel a more personal connection to the film, just because you'll get all of that air travel stuff, whereas not everyone will feel the same connection. That's simply what I was trying to say.
I think everyone should give it a chance. I'm just a film fanatic and I'm glad I got to see it. I enjoyed it, it's a great film from Reitman.

This is what I love about the internet blogging community. When you say something about someone, they're definitely going to read it. I've learned this the hard way.
