Down for Dogs

I'm leaving soon for Newark airport, where I'll catch a jet to Houston and then a connection to Shreveport, Louisiana. A degree of revelry and exploration this evening followed by a day of Straw Dogs inquiry with director-writer Rod Lurie and the cast -- Kate Bosworth, James Marsden, Alexander Skarsgard, James Woods and Dominic Purcell. A Shreveport Hilton staffer says their wifi is fast and steady, and if it isn't they also offer ethernet cable connections in the room plus an in-house Starbucks with wifi of its own. So I can't lose.

Shreveport, Lousiana -- distinguishable, I presume, from Akron, Ohio, or Mobile, Alabama? Other than a few sound stages being there, I mean?

Great shot there Jeff. It wasn't until I saw Regions Tower on the left that I realsed it was my city.

I hope you enjoy your stay down here. And in fact if that parking garage wasn't in the shot you'd be able to see the Stray Cats bar, since that's the street it's on.

BTW, if you get the chance go check out the vacant lot they dug in the Ledbetter area where they plan to build soundstages.
Get a kick out of seeing how long the city can let a tract of land lay barren while they decide if they even want to build.
Gotta love this town.

No I don't!

Every time I see a Rod Laurie film, I swear I'll never see another. The combination of (a) the preposterousness of "Nothing but the Truth," and (b) that there could be nothing he can add to Peckinpah's original should be enough to make me keep my word to myself.

Nothing But The Truth was a gripping, expertly acted, thoroughly believable poltical melodrama. Kate Beckinsale, Alan Alda, Matt Dillon...everyone. Excepr for that school bus ending. Lurie's best film ever.

"So I can't lose."

You can still lose -- you're in Shreveport.

Are you planning to visit the Stray Cat Bar, the place where Josh Brolin and Jeffrey Wright got harassed and then tasered and pepper sprayed and illegally arrested?

Excepr for that school bus ending.

Well, I guess we essentially agree then, just for me, the ending invalidated everything that came before because Beckinsale was protecting a source that didn't need protecting, and made a journalist's need to protect of her source seem like something of a joke. (My wife felt differently, though -- that Beckinsale's promise would be important to a mother.) I was mostly with it up until then, though.

The ending was a little pointless since Beckinsale had already "ruined" her sources life.

Eww. Gross. The South. Don't touch anything.

Flying Continental, eh?

Looking forward to "Nothing But the Truth".

Serious question, though.... is it good because it's a really good movie or is it "good" because it lobbies political points that the viewer agrees with?

i.e. "All The President's Men" = great film
"Lions For Lambs" = "good" film (not really) because it shows those Neo-Cons what-for!

Any of these interviews to be used for the DVD release?

Ask James Marsden this : Disturbing Behavior - horror turkey, or secret work of subversive genius?

I don't know, Jeff's awfully close to Mississippi. I'm worried.

Why is a Straw Dogs remake necessary? There's no way Marsden will top Dustin Hoffman's perfomance. Oh and switching the location to the American south, not the greatest idea either.

And there is no way the director will take it as far as Peckinpah did.

So, how did the day go? Are they all still there? When is the filming scheduled to end?

Thanks!
