I have an 11:45 am one-on-one with An Education star Carey Mulligan, and then the N.Y. premiere this evening followed by an after-event. And a lot more in-between. No more filings until mid-afternoon.

[The poster Jasctt, a Polanski pitchforker of the first order, has been banned for gross vulgarity and lack of respect for HE rules, and hjis post has been deleted. Good riddance. He was getting boring anyway -- he must have written "Raped. A. Child" in different threads at least five or six times. The pitchforkers are the ugliest comment-thread junkyard dogs to come along in ages.]

I don't mind making Polanski jokes fellas, and by definition they can't be classy, but at least make 'em clever. And way too many of you wingnuts have your pants around your ankles.

I'm starting to think that the moralistic howlers are secretly getting off on the idea of "drugging and raping" someone. Legally, the Polanski argument is about whether he should be made to face the fact that he skipped out before sentencing, and nothing else. Dwelling on the details of the unproven case itself is perhaps a projection of innermost desires.

How long till Spielberg snaps up Carey Mulligan and puts her in a movie? He always seems to cast the newest indie darling, especially when it's someone as winsome and pixieish as Mulligan; Why I can just see her now, in a short, choppy haircut in desaturated Kaminski sheen, playing like Cruise's wife or a harried suburban mom in some alien flick.
She seems to be hitting so all at once in acclaimed indie stuff, I wonder where Mann saw her to put her in "Public Enemies." Usually a good run of indies will GET YOU the A-list attention, but "Enemies" had to have shot before this run of smaller stuff. Good for her, she seems cool... I just always wonder how offbeat, up-and-coming actors outside the Hollywood agent-and-nepotism chain get spotted by mercurial, to-their-own-drummer perfectionist directors like a Michael Mann.

Carey said that she got that part in the traditional way, going to audition. She knew it it was a very small part, but she wanted to be in Michael Mann film, so she tried really hard to get.

Yeah, but can you really "just audition" for a movie that HUGE if you're a relatively new, obscure British TV actress? I always figure on a big Johnny Depp/Michael Mann movie, you'd have to have some CAA-level representation before they'd even look at a reel.

I know we've beat this drum before, but check out Milligan in the Dr. Who episode Blink. Not your typical Who episode, and Mulligan, who wears her hair long and blond, is very good in it.
Since it's probably the most popular episode of the Who reboot so far, Mann may have seen her in that.

On the other side of the Doctor Who casting coin, Claire Bloom is going to be in an upcoming episode?!

Claire Bloom? Really? I've had a thing for (50s and 60s) Claire Bloom ever since The Haunting. Just saw her again the other day in Olivier's Richard III. IMDB confirms your tip, so I'll be looking forward to it.
