There's no ducking out of watching This Is It!, the Michael Jackson doc coming out Wednesday. Every instinct and intuition tells me it's going to be a huge downer and a pageant of resounding phoniness, but it has to be seen and endured and commented upon regardless. I know I don't believe a single word that director Kenny Ortega says to Ben Sisario in this N.Y. Times story about the film.

And yes, Jeff, you can duck out of watching This Is It. Just don't pay the money to see it or don't accept a screening invite. It fucking BLOWS my mind that so many people were hoodwinked by this child-molester. I could give three shits about his music, how influential he was, how cute he was as a kid, how he was just misunderstood, yadda-yadda-yadda. The guy plied children with wine out of soda cans and touched their front bottoms. It's disgraceful. He did this for years. It's inexcusable. So year, Jeff, you can easily not support This Is It.

From everything I've read, this documentary was compiled from rehearsal footage that was to be intended solely for Jackson's use, to hone the stage show. In other words, not even Jackson wanted the public to see this stuff. So you always have that excuse. It's not like the vampires living off his corpse won't make enough money without you.

Jeff: Can you even get in to a screening? This flick sounds like it's gonna be sold out before you even buy tickets.

actionman: *cough* Polanski: Wanted and Desired and most of Larry Clark's films *cough*

Larry Clark molests children? Hadn't heard that. If true, then he's no better. I thought he was just a pervy older guy who liked to hire 18 year old actresses to play younger and sluttier...no?

And don't get me started on Polanski...they guy's definitely made some great movies but it doesn't excuse his behavior, nor do I think he should have gone unpunished for what he did.

Given the love that the LOS ANGELES TIMES shows for AEG, I'm guessing that Calendar will go shopping for a reviewer who won't be too hard on it.

Why do you have to see this Wells? I think what we look to you for on films like this is exactly the reaction you've given here, followed by an understandable refusal to take part.

I think I speak for many on here when I say I have no problem with "Every instinct and intuition tells me it's going to be a huge downer and a pageant of resounding phoniness" being your final word on the matter.

Of course Michael Jackson was a child molester. If you all say he was, then you all must have been there, so you must know it for a fact.

No, Tom, I wasn't there in person. I just happen to know (and have worked with) people who he groped and fondled.

The Jackson family has shown time and again that when it comes to feasting off the dead they'd put vultures to shame. They'll be cranking out "lost songs" and "never-before-seen footage" of MJ for decades to come because, now that Janet has lost her luster, they have no other reliable source of income.

I'll be at the 9:30pm IMAX showing tomorrow night at my walking-distance close AMC, but partially because it's the rare shot to write an early review for a major movie without having to trek out to Santa Monica or Hollywood during rush hour. Truth be told, as a long-ago fan from the 80s, I'd actually be far more interested in this if Jackson wasn't dead. It might very well be an interesting rock documentary, but the obvious exploitation at work cast a pall over what otherwise might be enjoyable fluff.

I'm in no way a Jackson fan, but what is the evidence that he was a child molester? It sounds like a weak case to me: two allegations of abuse in 10 years (and only one of them involving actual sex), no credible witnesses, and finally no incriminating evidence found after his abrupt and unexpected death. He may have been a pedophile at heart, but I find it very hard to believe he could've got away with being a serial molester.
