Jamie Stuart's Isn't She?... is being described as "an ode to John Hughes that follows a day in the life of Claire (Lauren Currie Lewis) as she tries to claim unemployment insurance."
Can anybody link me to the newest stories from Variety, one link at a time? I just rode in a DeLorean from 1992 and navigating this so-called "World Wide Web" IZ TUFF.
So the boyfriend wasn't living with her? I wonder how many people would resort to that if they were out of a job.
BTW, the coffee part? That's happened to me, several times this year.
Check out all the haters! Stuart is a very gifted shooter and cutter, and I for one liked the movie. It's good to see Stuart stretching himself and trying new things....
Why is someone labeled a "hater" simply because they don't like something?
Perhaps they were using their critical eyes and determined that the above video is shite. Which it is, by the way.
Out of the many hundreds of short films I view each year, I assure you, this is was not even the top 300. It's poorly scripted, poorly crafted, and poorly rendered as compared with the rest of the dreck out there. And that's being complimentary.
You see, M., that's kind of the joke. As soon as I saw Jeff had posted my short, I e-mailed a few people involved to tell them -- and to also let them know we were now going to get a bunch of hate comments. Because it's ultimately predictable from many of the commenters here. (jeffmcm commonly uses multiple names to attack my work.) Happens all the time -- and, obviously, this was no different.
I think what Chicago and King (thanks by the way) were suggesting is that most of the comments are lacking any insight -- just ad hominem attacks -- and that the commenters probably didn't watch the entire film, which to be fair, at 15 minutes, is a lot longer than the average web attention span. Because if you'd watched the entire film you'd know that the first 3 minutes are not necessarily representative of the whole.
It's probably not in my interest to respond to comments on a blog post. But I'd just like to say, you're entitled to your opinion -- but if you're going to have any opinion of my work, I suggest you make some intelligent critiques. As in, know what you're talking about.
Because what you're talking about is a 15 minute short made for a couple of bucks by one person -- I shot it, edited it, wrote it, recorded/mixed the sound, created/manufactured dozens of logos and web pages, and even created all of the VFX and composite shots which exceed 120 in all, most of which are invisible.
So like I said, I have no problem with you disliking my work. But to take it to the point where it's "shite" and poorly made gives you away.
Forgive me for being cynical, Mutiny. And perhaps you are correct.
Perhaps I should have been more constructive in my criticism, and not so simply harsh, regarding your movie.
The thing is, when you sit in front of a monitor all day long, five days a week, watching short films (as it is my job to do), one becomes disenchanted with the form, quite quickly. And, it is easy to be dismissive as such if something doesn't hit me, within the first couple of minutes.
But I did watch the whole thing.
Though I did like the lead actress (she has an Alicia Silverstone-like quality), and I do think there's some great camerawork and lighting (which is interesting because you made a tip of the hat in the credits to Harris Savides...I wonder why that is?), the piece just didn't strike me.
But I will say this...
I did watch (what I believe to be) your piece on Joe Wright, shot as a promotional during the release of Atonement, (is that correct?), and I found your work on that to be really quite stunning. So, I'm not so cynical to the point where I can't appreciate great work when I see it.
