It's almost fascinating that Universal marketing has decided to try a suggestive/arty mode for its recently revealed one-sheet campaign for Joe Johnston's The Wolfman (2.12.10). If Val Lewton were making werewolf movies today and designing his own posters, these are the kind of material he'd probably turn out.

Me likey. Did they even use any makeup/prosthetics on Del Toro in this movie? He could have played this part simultaneously with Che without any of that stuff given his hairy, disheveled appearance in that film.

Blunt is beautiful and Del Toro is not a big star. Sell the scary. Great posters.

Horror is my least favorite genre but I am really looking forward to this one for some reason.

Citizen Kaned, I thought I read something about Rick Baker's make-up work on the transformation being largely replaced by CGI.
If true, that's unfortunate. And Val Lewton would NOT approve.

I don't get the Blunt poster on the left whatsoever. She's making an unattractive face, and the art is blurring any emotion. I assume she's supposed to be scared and hiding, but that's unclear without context. If i was to guess the title of the movie from the picture, I'd guess The Scarlet Letter before The Wolfman.

I love how those two posters look side-by-side, with Blunt's arm (accentuated by the same-colored tree gap behind it) becoming del Toro's cheek.
I would have loved to see Mark Romanek's version, but Joe Johnston is no slouch, and the trailer plays fine, so I don't see any reason to be sniffy about this yet.

If you want to see to see Rick Baker head a wolf transformation, just go to youtube. We've already seen him do it a handful of times. I actually look forward to some high-quality CG work and hope it puts that terrible Twilight transformation to shame.

Those posters are great. I wish the whole movie were shot in that chiaroscuro style instead of with the usual Hollywood gloss. Johnston did OK with the no-muss "Jurassic Park 3," I suppose. Is this really his first slick in 6 years?

I agree with Mark, there's something odd about Blunt's expression/presence on the left side. They should have had her in an embrace with the pre-transformation Benicio.

Her poster is straight from one of the money-shots of the trailer. If you've seen that, you know what she's hiding from (hint: werewolf!!!!).

Does this look like a big bore period piece to anybody else? I think this will die on the vine.

" I wish the whole movie were shot in that chiaroscuro style " Watch the new trailer, looks like there's quite a few scenes shot in this film noir style.

Val Lewton would have cast Marion Cotillard in the Emily Blunt role and never shown the werewolf, although there would be a lot of scenes of Cotillard walking through the woods while "something" stalked her off-screen.
