In Rouge/Universal's MacGruber, a comedy about a screw-up secret agent (SNL's Will Forte), Val Kilmer plays a character (presumably an edgy bad-guy type) named...Cunth. Ryan Phillippe, Kristen Wiig and Powers Boothe costar.

I believe Phillippe was supposed to be the villain.
There's been an onslaught of Val Kilmer work coming lately. A lot of DTV like The Thaw and Hardwired, and Bad Lieutenant 2 (which needed more of him).

"MacGruber" is one of my favorite running SNL sketches in a long time (I barely watch the show anymore), or anytime, really. It's a wonderful comic conceit - for 2 1/2 minutes. In fact, the comic conceit is literally ABOUT the fact that its 2:30 in length. I think this is the worst SNL-to-movie idea I've heard yet (and boy have there been some doozys), even though I think the sketch is brilliant.

This is worse than Tarantino's It's Pat.
Next, Forte should do a feature length movie on his Spelling Bee sketch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoGZ7rhZNHo
Kristin Wiig is above this. Phillipe, not so much.

Isn't it sort of understood now for about 4 or 5 years that Phillipe is actually one of the better actors of his generation who makes good choices...

i think it's been understood for 4 years that Phillipe is a good, but not special, supporting actor.
My thread came off as swipe at Phillipe, but was meant to say that I'd like to see Wiig extended more. She was complete furniture in the Macgruber universe to date.

I would rather pull my eye out with a claw hammer than watch this movie.

Who greenlit this crap?
How does Lorne Michaels keep his job? SNL is arguably the least witty show on tv for the last 20 years.
