Forgotten

Gerritt Graham's cameo performance as Beef, a coke-snorting rock singer, in Brian DePalma's Phantom of the Paradise (1974) was perhaps the first out-there parody of a rock-industry cliche -- i.e.,, the over-indulged infantile celebrity. Graham was hilarious, and was just as remarkable five years later in Robert Zemeckis's Used Cars. It would be nice if the Paradise Bluray, currently available in France, would be released domestically.

Graham is amazing in both movies. Plus, in "Used Cars," he's part of one of the most jaw-dropping stunts I've ever seen. He stumbles backward across a street and a car coming from the other direction swerves in the nick of time. On the commentary, Zemeckis and Kurt Russell say he had no idea how close that car was.

Love both movies, especially Graham's performances. Used Cars is an almost perfect comedy top to bottom. Can't count how many times I saw it growing up thanks to endless cable showings. It still stands up nicely. Watched it again a few months ago & laughed my ass off.
