I missed the 12.17 news of Jennifer Jones' passing at age 90. The only film in which her aura came through for me was in Portrait of Jennie ('48) and, to a slightly lesser extent, Since You Went Away ('44) and A Farewell To Arms ('57). Everyone thought she was excessive in Duel in the Sun ('46) but then that whole film was excessive.

I find "Beat the Devil" incredibly underrated, although it was hardly a showcase for her.

She is luminous in that film clip. I also think she's quite good in Carrie, which also features one of Olivier's best screen performances.

An appropriate clip for today, given the weather. Then and now, Central; Park is beautiful in the snow.

Joseph Cotten's 1987 autobiography "Vanity Will Get You Somewhere" is full of information about his co-star and longtime friend Jennifer Jones. One section deals with Cotten's life after the death from leukemia of his wife Lenore. Quote: "Once home, I discovered that I did have friends. Jennifer and David (Selznick) called every day for long chats, and I joined them at their house whenever they were dining alone, which they did often so that I could be with them."

Did any performer end her onscreen career as dramatically as Jones? Plunging from THE TOWERING INFERNO...what a way to go!

Portrait of Jenny has always been a part of me. The mysticism of the story, Cape Cod as messenger of death, Ethel Barrymore, Cecil Kellaway, David Wayne all wonderful in their supporting roles....esp when Ethel begins to believe - the music of Debussy - and Where I'm going nobody knows.....
I wrote a paper on Jenny and it contributed to my A in English Comp. Eons ago.

This is not the best curling shot. Glenn Howard at the 2009 Brier. It's a harder shot, far more difficult to have called, and far more rocks moving. This is a good shot but you see at least one in every Brier/Scotties.

Existing local initiatives should also seek a stronger involvement of local governments and their agencies. This would help to further streamline procedures related to business registration and administrative matters depending from local authorities.free long distance phone calls
