Chris Morris's Four Lions, a comedy about suicide bombers, is set to screen in Sundance 2010. Morris and In The Loop creator Armando Iannucci used to be allied or partnered in some comedic fashion. So figure that Four Lions is 2010's In The Loop, or...you know, something in an Islamic-doofus vein.

In preparation Morris reportedly spoke to" terrorism experts, imams, police, secret services and hundreds of Muslims." A statement from Warp Films says that the film "understands how terrorism relates to testosterone. It understands jihadis as human beings. And it understands human beings as innately ridiculous."

That is one off-putting picture... I've studied it and cannot figure out what I'm looking at, other than one of the guitarists from System of a Down fighting off a garish clown shower curtain.

What's that, 143,000 Lex, 1 Budd? Come back and brag when you got Defamer, Gawker, LA Weekly, Wolcott in Vanity Fair, and Huffington Post talking up your "ACT" and Poland offering you chances to write legit.
Everything I post here and on Twitter is as authentic and born of legitimate emotional and psychic pain as Richard Pryor on the Sunset Strip.
I'm expecting an offer of a book deal any day now for my Twitter.

Morris is indeed a genius.
Ianucci used to co-write/produce The Day Today, a BBC news satire, with Morris. Ianucci was very much the Paul McCartney of the duo, Morris much more likely to do something inspired or controversial, like the Brass Eye Paedophile special or announcing the death of a Government Minister live on the radio when that minister was alive and well.
They also collaborated on an Observer supplement in 2001 which satirised the media response to 9/11 - The Absolute Atrocity Special - which was the very definition of "too soon".
You can read some of it here : http://observer.guardian.co.uk/review/page/0,,671683,00.html
His recent work has been a little tame, but still great, especially Nathan Barley. Four Lions sounds more like vintage Morris.

Oh, Lex. Learn to laugh at yourself a little. It'll do you a world of good. You put the deepest, darkest parts of yourself out there every single day, which means you invite personal ridicule.
Also, I read a bit of your Twitter. I'm not Professor Advice over here, but maybe you should lay off the booze for a few weeks if you get that worked up in the middle of the night.

Conan Riquelme knows the score. GOOD POST. He also has a good name.
Morris and Iannucci being Lennon and McCartney is a genius comparison. That's not to disparage either one of them; just that The Thick of It is a lot less bizarre than Nathan Barley. But Iannucci is capable of surrealism at its best. Get the DVD of The Armando Iannucci Shows if you're interested and you'll see a masterclass of comedy.
The Day Today, Brass Eye and I'm Alan Partridge are three of the best TV shows ever made.

Great to see the frankly scary genius of Chris Morris being discussed here. And if anyone wants to check out what could truly be his darkest work so far, google Jam and Blue Jam. Hilarious, terrifying, confusing and very disturbing all at the same time. He's also probably the only person I've heard out-ad lib Peter Cook in the brilliant Arthur Streeb-Greebling interview "Why Bother?" These things must be sought out by yourselves. Very much looking forward to this film.

BRob is right. Chris Morris is a genuine genius in a culture that lauds everyone as "genius". He's absolutely mint and even if Four Lions disappoints, you should still take the opportunity to catch up on his earlier stuff because you'll be a better person for it.

I disagree with the Lennon/McCartney comparison with Iannucci and Morris. I would go for Lou Reed and John Cale. Both are brilliant but Iannucci is slightly more commercial whereas Morris is way out there. But yeah, I love them both. I certainly hope Four Lions has the same Sundance success as In the Loop, but don't expect Chris Morris to play ball and publicize the film.
