Universal had it right with the Emily Blunt Wolfman poster, going the suggestive/subtle route. And then, I'm guessing, some marketing guy said, "Uhhm, I hate to mention this but surveys are showing this Blunt poster isn't doing well with the dumbasses...we need to punch things up." And so they did. Just a guess. I do know that I didn't see the right-side poster until recently.

"Keep in mind something I was recently told," a friend writes, "which is that Universal doesn't officially have a marketing department now as no one really and truly replaced Adam Fogelson in the job. So the marketing executive is now head of the studio calling all the shots about this stuff. That poster not only represents his direct personal taste, but how they'll sell the movie which they're now shaping as something for the Saw audience as opposed to 'classic gothic horror.'"

Am I reading the date on the new one-sheet correct?
12.02.10?
Or is my eyesight already fading?

That's how you can tell it's a European poster, maxfm -- the date's in day/month/year format.

I'd say it clearly means that the Wolfman poster isn't meant to replace the previous poster as part of the two-fer.
I'm still surprised they're getting away with a black and white poster for 'The Wolfman' in America; it seems like that would send a message to people (I don't like "Eloi") that the movie is black and white.

The dumbasses? Jeff, this is a WOLF MAN movie. I don't think wanting a wolf man in your WOLF MAN is the province of dumbasses.

Always with the anger and the insults. And the funniest part is, when Jeffrey leaves his elitist cocoon and wallows among the "dumbasses," they invariably treat him with warmth and kindness.
Remember the season: "Mankind was my business..."

I like the Blunt one a lot more. It was certainly more subtle.
I'm surprised Devin isn't busy mocking a teenage girl for liking Twilight then writing a masturbatory post about a new comic book film.

I thought the same thing the instant I saw it, about the European date. So the Americans are the sophisticated ones who dig the Emily Blunt poster, and the Euros are Cletus & Nadine. Awesome.
Eloi - 1) someone who bought or plans to buy a ticket for a movie that didn't make your top-ten list. Minimum budget $20 million required.
2) Anyone who sees less than 50 movies a year and doesn't wear a turtleneck.

I don't think many people even know this movie is coming. The poster on the right sells the movie more effectively, but also with added cheese.

Right, because iit wouldn't be smart at all to try and market it similar to that one recent werewolf movie that happened to make 200 million in less than 2 weeks.
They also spent a shitload of money on Julia Roberts salary despite the fact she has no b.o. pull anymore, failed to gain any traction with a smart, well put together Russel Crowe thriller, failed to rally the geeks to see Raimi's return to horror despite it's 90% RT rating, greenlit a 100m+ will ferrell vehicle that was neither appropriate for older fans of Step Bros or younger fans of Elf, ran an entire ad campaign solely on Depp's "star power", gave waaay too much money and creative leeway to Apatow and Baron Cohen's and much anticipated follow ups, and then unsuccessfully tried to cash in on the vampire craze by excluding every element that made them popular at the moment (although John C. Reilly could be easily confused with Edward Cullen).

DeeZee, HANNIBAL was a February release, and I would say that if anything, it was positioned higher in its studio's expectations.
PASSION OF THE CHRIST was also February, though it didn't come from the kind of studio that relies on tentpoles.

Joe Johnston.
Not sure why the enthusiasm doesn't stop there... probably a nice guy and a tearm player, but this needs an overwrought maniac at the helm, like Coppola doing Dracula. It should be kinky and crazed and bloody and histrionic and maniacal and way over-the-top.
It shouldn't be from the maker of Jumanji. And it fuck-sure shouldn't be PG13.

Emily Blunt? Damn, I was thinking "Boy does MEG TILLY look fuckin' hot for her age!"
Seriously, Universal wasn't exactly knocking them out of the park even with Adam Fogelson there. Remember the terrible job they did with OUT OF SIGHT? When you can't successfully market a solid piece of entertainment like that to an adult audience, the one time you actually need a marketing department, maybe the studio head should be making all the calls.

Um, so the teaser poster teased. And the final poster spells it out. I don't object to seeing a wolfman on the poster, but the type for the title on the second poster looks like it belongs on the 3:10 to Yuma poster.

Oddly enough, the first time I saw the title font on the Blunt version, I thought of the "Saw" franchise.
The font on the new version looks influenced by the Downey Jr./Law reboot of Sherlock Holmes.
