"Someone sends me the links every time there's a new one," says Downfall director Oliver Hirschbiegel to New York's "Vulture" guys. "I think I've seen about 145 of them. Many times the lines are so funny, I laugh out loud, and I'm laughing about the scene that I staged myself! You couldn't get a better compliment as a director."

multiple viewings of that scene show that it is shot and cut SO tightly. perfection, basically.

and in a funny way the virals really have earmarked it as Scene of the Decade.

It's the exquisite tension in the scene that makes it so compelling of which editing is definitely a big part of, it's also the performances. You don't know what exactly is going to happen next. Anything could. That is what can make film so enthralling, I think. I nominated for the next best Scene of the Decade the one in the beginning of Inglourious Basterds with Col. Lans Handa and the farmer. Let the games begin.

It's really a shame that all of these Downfall meme videos have been taken down. I absolutely loved them (though they're a little ruined for me because I speak some German). It seems crazy to me to call in the copyright on this. An internet like this meme is every marketer's dream. I guess the director was embarrassed by them or something. It's too bad :(.
