The Vancouver Sun's Chris Parry has cited numerous instances in which junket critic Paul Fischer -- an Australian commonly known for dispensing favorable junket-whore quotes -- has used festival notes and synopses to fortify his reviews.

As Parry puts it, "In a case of the world coming full circle, a film reviewer who has made a name for himself being quoted in movie marketing materials is accused of plagiarizing large chunks of his film reviews -- from movie marketing materials." I'm sorry for Fischer, whom I know from the junket/festival circuit, and the woes he must be going through now, but he seems to have made his own bed. Parry's reporting appears fairly precise. There doesn't seem to be much room for doubt.

Thing is, I love guys like Parry.
In the recent Razzie Award nominations, I had a perfect record of non-attendance until the Megan Fox double nom and much of my avoidance I can "thank" for junket/blurb whores who are the best tip off that a film is must to avoid. Sure, some films are easy (OLD DOGS), but when they can't find a single name reviewer for something like GI JOE you know that even your inner fan boy will find it a waste.

Sadly, Paul's always had a knack for getting himself into trouble. When he was freelancing in Sydney during the 90s he sold an exclusive "Hollywood star" interview (can't remember the details) to two competing weekend newspapers. Both papers, unaware of the scam, ran the piece on the same weekend. Talk about shit hitting the fan. They never bought anything from Paul to this day. Around the same time a verbal altercation with Oliver Stone and a local distributor further enhanced Paul's notoriety. Must look him up one day.

Not really germane, but G.I. JOE is not that bad. 1000 filmmakers probably could not have made a G.I. JOE movie any better, and there are dozens who could have made it worse. A fun, solid double that understands it is a goofball property. Completely free of Bay's insane Trannies mythology.

Jesus Christ, here we go again - there must be something in the water down here in Sydney and Melbourne that makes certain Oz critics go "Fuck it, she'll be right mate!" when turning 'creative' as far as penning something of original authorship. Melbourne film academic Barbara Creed (author of horribly unreadable academic tomes arguing that every single horror film ever made is an expression of man's symbolic fear of the vagina) was shitcanned some years ago from the Melbourne newspaper THE AGE for a long string of plagiarism offences. Examples of her fine work were repeating chunks of the QUIZ SHOW review Peter Travers did for Rolling Stone, reprinting press notes for HK films from the local Chinatown Cinema, and regurgitating whole sections of of a review of Tsui Hark's GREEN SNAKE that were reprinted in a Valhalla Cinema publicity handout. I appreciate that plagiarism doesn't rank alongside the categories of child rape or serial murder but amongst the general standards of working professionals I feel there are few acts lower than ripping off another writer's work. Good on Parry for doing the detective work in this case and standing by his conclusions.

Yeah, I noticed that when he mentioned the Oz mag FILMINK in his article. He's evidently one of the good guys. I didn't mention it in my earlier post as it would drag things too far off topic, but the Oz literature scene had a major plagiarism scandal when pseudonymous art-lit harridan Helen Demidenko/Darville - winner (briefly) of a major literature award down here - was pegged as a serial plagiarist across both her books and newspaper articles. We do have some solid writers in Oz, but I sometimes suspect that - for the odd, chosen few - there's an edge of desperation evoked by living such a distance from more high intensity creative centres like LA, NY, Berlin, London etc, which itself often creates an 'atmosphere' where certain, needy folk will flinch at doing the hard yards required to make good work, seeking short cuts to simply being a semi-famous,well-dressed media figure popping up in the style photo sections of local magazines instead. (That noted I woudn't exactly call Fischer well-dressed in the pic above). One ugly high-profile pay TV show down here had young hip 'filmmakers' who had won a TV funding contest to quickly shoot a film bragging at length about the art of the deal and the size of their investments rather than evidently giving a shit about what they were going to shoot, or why, or how, or whether it would be any good. (A few years ago a painful documentary came out of the dumbass travails of two such types who blew a couple of million of other people's money on an eventually unreleasable 'comedy'). Hey, I could be wrong. There are undoubtedly Rupert Pupkins everywhere, but I guess the ones that lie closest are the ones that rankle. That noted, I hope Fischer's plagiarism exploits earn him a really shitty time, as he's evidently earned it.

It is said that one only discovers who his true friends are in the face of adversity. Granted, Mr. Fischer put himself in this state, but I think he's about to discover he doesn't have many true friends. Of course, Mr. Fischer also put himself in this state.
I don't particularly enjoying kicking a guy when he is down, but Paul Fischer is (or was, if one is to believe he retired after Mr. Parry's piece was released) the epitome of what is wrong with internet journalism. Not that I hold myself up to some kind of Murrowian standard of journalism excellence, but Mr. Fischer has for years had an unnatural and confusing sense of entitlement that belied his true status.
I pretty much stopped attending press days after his embarrassing hogging of the 3:10 to Yuma press day, where he ate up at least 1/3 of the group's allotted 20mins with Mr. Crowe and Mr. Bale on a "question" to Mr. Crowe that was relating some story about a young and unknown Mr. Crowe visiting the classroom of Mr. Fischer's daughter back in Australia many years before, with a "Do you remember that?" thrown it to make it an actual question.
Now that I know there is little chance of his being in attendance, maybe I will start going to them again.

Edhavens: I'm sure you meant "Murrovian" ;)
But you're quite correct overall, and if it's true Fischer's been shit-canned, that's great. Well done, Mr. Parry. I encountered Fischer a few times, and "sense of entitlement" is spot-on, and as baffling to me as it was to you. But as HarryMoseby notes, standards are truly low in this arena, and I'm sure it's gotten much worse in the years since I've moved on.

There are numerous diet plans that can tell you how to lose weight fast. Some work better than others for fast weight loss, some are easier to stick to than others, and some are less expensive than others. Scarsdale offers the most choices, which makes it easier to stick to and keep losing weight. The cabbage soup diet is repetitive but cheap to be on, while the lemonade diet requires the least preparing. Sometimes the need to lose weight fast doesn't translate into keeping the pounds off.
The thing to remember when choosing a diet is to choose one you can stay on for a longer term if you have more than a couple pounds to lose. Look for flavor, variety, and ease of food preparation. Make sure the diet has solid success stories from people like you.
The first thing that anyone considering a diet plan to lose 10 pounds fast needs to do is seek a doctor's advice on the plan to they want to follow. Your physician will be able to provide their educated advice on the diet after a full physical examination, which will let you know if this plan is right for you.
The following diet plans for how to lose weight fast have worked for many people compared to other diet attempts. Find the diet that is right for you, check with your doctor, and get his or her approval before starting. Losing weight fast is the jump start many people need to begin a diet. Good luck with the one you choose!

Awesome concept. I know a buddy of mine makes use of templates. This stuff is great for if you append rows to a grid or list.
Also, it would probably be great for having some sort of "viewer". You could have a list of documents, and use jQuery to get JSON data, then put the data into the template. Something like viewing invoices or other formatted docs.
Just to be picky too, according to w3schools.com, the "value" tag is deprecated? But I guess it is still technically valid. I like to be "valid" when I can :)
