I realized upon seeing these teabagger bumper stickers early this afternoon on 81 South ("I want you to fight socialism," etc.) that I'd never been within actual spitting distance of a live teabagger. A minority voice wanted to roll down the window and flip this guy off and scream "eff you!" The majority sentiment ruled, of course, so I slowed down, waited for him to pass on the right, got behind him and took a photo...except my Canon digital was dead so I hastily used the iPhone.

When will you finally realize Teabagger = lost cause?
They are history's biggest sore losers and have funneled that rage and inability to accept the loss into a movement without any real issues.
As a recent polls suggest, these are the type of people who watch Fox News because they know it will never challenge their accepted world-view and reinforce pre-conceived opinions based solely on that ideology.
The best thing is the course of action you ultimately did - nothing. Ignore them and let them sputter on about their idiotic paranoia and ignorance fueled rants while time puts them in Life's rear-view mirror.

You're make the assumptions that a) 18-30 year-olds aren't going out and voting proportionately to other age groups (or even more concisely, proportionately to how 18-30 have always voted) , b) said 18-30 year-olds would automatically vote Democratically (probably true, by and large, but your usage of the word "we" here is a little misguided), and c) either party is going to have to do a little bit fucking better than lame-duck candidates like John Kerry to get me passionately pulling my lever (what a euphemism!) in the future.

lol okay, dad.
i worked at a polling site at a local university in the '08 election and from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm we were PACKED full of voters and, yes, they were *all* students. actually, the site closed at 8:00 but everyone standing in line by 8:00 got to vote, so we weren't done till around 9:45. i took two breaks that day and both times it took me about 5 mins just to maneuver my way through the massive crowd that came down to vote. there were two huge lines that wrapped around the building and into the quad. course, someone would make the argument that they were all just voting for obama but so? finally there was a politician who spoke to them. perhaps "tea partiers" vote all the time because there's never a shortage of right-of-center politicians they "relate" to.
i'm in my twenties and it makes me facepalm whenever i see some dinosaur complaining that we're all "hipster nihilists" who don't "care about anything." obama was the first politician that people under 30 strongly related to and the vast majority of us went out to vote for him.

I just find this post a little odd coming so soon after you said, "Curiosity is perhaps the most attractive human trait."
You seem to have absolutely zero curiosity about the tea party movement, since you freely admit to having never met one of them. Instead, you base your opinions on the words of others (others who probably have had no personal contact either.)
Why not initiate conversation with one of them, and ask what's behind their opinions? See if they offer reasonable responses, or are truly the knuckledraggers you assume them to be? Or is your curiosity limited to what you already believe in and feel safe about?

Josh, one of the advantages of experience and age is that you get a pretty good idea of what constitutes something that indeed deserves further investigation and what doesn't. And my curiosity has been abated by news sources I trust and my own eyes when I stumbled into one of the 4/15 events.
The banners told me everything I needed to know: they don't like the fact Obama won and- SHOCKER! - don't like the policies he is implementing.
Seems they were out of class the day in Civics when it was explained that when a party wins both the legislative and executive branch because The People want it so, then they get to make changes.
Also, in regards to your attempt to make some point with the "Two wonderful products of capitalism," comment, you do realize that this country was founded by left-wing merchants, right?

Speaking of the logic disconnect of most of these Tea Bagging Sore Losers, I love the fact that they are pouring money into fighting Nancy Pelosi's re-election up in SF.
Pelosi's is one of the safest seats in the nation and in the last election the runner up wasn't even the Republican, but sadly demented Cindy Sheehan who siphoned off the far, far Left votes.
Yet, the Tea Baggers have thrown away millions in a hopeless effort to unseat her. The quotes from them are priceless, as they clearly think think this not symbolic but possible. No, they are not giving to the GOP, but to actual opponents.
When instead, if they actually possessed the ability to think rationally for themselves and wanted change, there are several races where Obama's coattails carried the Dems to victory in 2008 that could be reversed.

I'm 24 years old. You make a good point when you say the tea partiers vote all the time because there's never a shortage of right-of-center politicians. Believing in someone you can relate to is often what it comes down to in politics. So yes, the vast majority of people who voted for Obama are loyal to him and only him--but this is the problem. I'm a fan of Obama, but he's only a politician. If my age group truly cared about the issues Obama espouses, they shouldn't need him, and they sure as shit better not congratulate themselves on voting in record numbers in '08. Good-looking black guys who can play some ball and give rousing speeches come around once in a blue moon. We're doomed if we keep waiting for the "next Obama".

Jeff's anger seemed derived solely from the fact there was an anti-socialism bumper sticker on the car. I found it amusing his initial reaction involved the use of two products that would have never existed if this were a socialist country. Pretty simple.
You say they wear racism so proudly, but I don't see that. Again, there are some yahoos in every group, but I think your statement proves you too haven't had any personal experience with them, and instead rely on the slanted reporting of others. What examples do you have for this widespread, blatant racism?

It will happen this way:
The Democrats will lose seats, probably enough to lose "do whatever we want to" control of Congress, because that's generally how midterm elections go.
Talk Radio and the teabaggers will take credit, 90% of which they won't deserve, and throw themselves a party over it. Everyone on Fox will spooge all over the set. Keith Olberman will get sanctimonious and moody for about two months. Maddow will be "down" for a night, then go back to being the most compulsively-watchable news-talk show on cable.
Obama will STILL be re-elected in 2012, because the GOP has no electable stars. Clinton won after the Gingrich revolution, which was WAY more significant than the tea party.

Sorry, some of you people (DBTP, phanta-whatever) are just too young to know entirely what you're talking about:
I was in college when Clinton ran in 1992 and he was just as galvanizing to young people. Dude was the "cool" choice, showing up on Arsenio and MTV and answering questions about his underwear, and college kids and young voters went nuts for him, just as they did Obama.
Sorry, someone born in the early to mid-80s just doesn't have the perspective on this kind of thing to comment-- to say Obama is like the first time a politician energized a young generation is extremely narrow in focus. Ever heard of John F Kennedy?
Christ, I was only four when JIMMY CARTER became president, but after Nixon and Ford, I feel pretty safe in saying if you polled COLLEGE KIDS in 1976 you'd have thought Carter was the Messiah, too.
In other words, trying being older.

So it's right wingers who think blacks are helpless without government help? Seriously? It's right wingers who think welfare is a great way to live? Really?
And it is right wingers who are scared to offend Muslims? It's right wingers who are intimidated by empty threats from Muslim websites? Right wingers aren't scared of Muslims, they hate them. It hasn't been debunked by anybody that matters.

This paragraph belongs in the Hall of Idiocy. It's really almost impossible a single human being could be so stupid. But you pull it off rather easily.

Top five funniest things that guy just said:
"What is it with Leftists and their constant repeating of debunked conspiracy theories?"
[Obviously, the birth certificate thing is too stupid for him to refer to it as a theory.]
"Or the way they treat black people like retarded children who need help to tie their shoes."
[Apparently, he's talking about welfare, and sees nothing wrong with making the leap that poor = black.]
"It is the Left wingers who are frightened to death of Muslims, and go out of their way to appease and not offend them, lest they get angry."
[He's seriously claiming the president of Viacom is a left winger! Bit of a stretch but, hey, this is a guy who basically said that "Bring it on" is a good strategy.]
"I can't believe you actually just repeated the lie of "the only way Republicans win an election is to rig it.""
[This one's a bit subtle; it's mainly that, rather than address the point that was stated -- Bush stole the election(s) -- he leapt to a more ridiculous straw man position, "The only way Republicans win is to rig an election." But, amazingly enough, he sets up a straw man position and DOESN'T EVEN TAKE THE TIME TO KNOCK IT DOWN. He just writes it off as a conspiracy theory that leftists subscribe to, because, to him, that's the same thing.]

Just for the record, Chinaski and Gordn believe black people are inferior, believe Hispanics and Muslims are inherently violent, and treat as religion debunked myths about the 2000 election. They are racist, scared, and judgmental.
I tell you, Leftists are so nuanced and tolerant!
I also find it funny how you criticize right wingers for not arguing anything of substance, when not only do you do the same, but no matter how many facts are thrown in your face you still deny their veracity.
Saying the 2000 election was stolen really makes you no different than the dopes who think Obama is not a U.S. citizen. The far Left, as exemplified by you two troglodytic masses of wasted flesh, are just as stupid and close minded as the far right idiots. The fact you can't see that is just entertainment for the masses.
So tell me, either of you, who was offended that kids wore American flag t-shirts? Who got scared to show the South Park episode unedited? Can you even answer such basic questions? Or are you still hiding under your bed until those scary Muslims and Hispanics go away? Not answering these questions illustrates your cowardly nature.
Fear, thy name is Leftist scum.

Not taking the bait. Stop with the insults. Stop with the lies.
I truly believe you don't believe what you're saying. You're trying to get a reaction from me. Maybe you're trying to fill the void that you've felt since your husband left you for someone prettier.
Your posts are so ludicrous and over the top it's impossible to take them seriously.

What the fuck's going on in here..... jeez... I wander away for a couple of days.....
Gordn27..... I still don't understand your contention that I'm being inconsistent.... It's one thing to debate someone on issues... my point is that it's twerpy and weak to call somebody names like "coward", (i.e. go personal) that they would be far too trembly and frightened to say to someone's face... in person... it's the epitome of hiding behind someone's skirt....
the only thing I'll say regarding dickweed's posts (and yes, I'd call him that to his face) is the "comeback" that nobody of any substance has debunked the "Bush stole the election" theory.... really? The New York Times doesn't "matter"?
Now..... don't make me come back here..... behave yourselves...

Chinaski, you're a racist. Just admit it. You have a problem with "brown" people, as you put it.
Why are you so scared? What have the "darkies," as you call them, ever done to you?

I'd have no problem saying it to your face. And it's twerpy and weak to get in someone's face on a blog and talk tough. You're a cowardly little pussy. We both know this.
"the only thing I'll say regarding dickweed's posts (and yes, I'd call him that to his face) "
You wouldn't have the balls to say that to my face.
Your hypocrisy and cowardice are amazing.

Still not taking the bait. I wonder if this is really the best that you're capable of.
Now go put your tampon in.

Still. Not. Taking. The. Bait.
But I'm enjoying your repeated attempts at trying. I'm guessing at this point that your inability to rile me is making you pretty angry. And that makes me happy.
