Credoaction, a liberal-activist website, is collecting petition signatures that might persuade Disney not to advertise on "Sarah Palin's Alaska," a forthcoming eight-episode series on the Discovery Channel in which Palin, a slayer of Alaskan wildlife and an advocate of "drill, baby, drill," will serve as a kind of tour guide.

"Disney is a long-time advertiser on The Learning Channel, and unless the company specifically demands that its ads not be shown during this Palin show, that ad revenue may be funding this monstrosity," the website states.

Good thing we've already forgotten about BP (much less the companies actually responsible for the oil spill, like Halliburton) so we can focus on the important things.

What good will getting Disney to boycott Palin's show do? Besides make a bunch of knee-jerk lefties feel good about their 'activism'.
My greatest hope is that Sarah Palin's show will become a HUGE success, and she'll have to dedicate the majority of her time to the show, keeping her out of any kind of political career, and keeping her out of the limelight...
The only thing I'm suffering with more than Sarah Palin Fatigue is Anti-Sarah Palin Fatigue...
TAKE ACTION! Sarah Palin may teach you something about Alaska!

Does it make me a bad (semi) Republican that I both hate religion and find this woman sort of insufferable?
Not evil, not terrifying, she's not going to lead us into oblivion even WHEN she becomes president (and she WILL, as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow), and her fans do have a point about the "Palin derangement" thing being out of control, even irrational in some of her detractors. But it just could NOT be any more obvious that she's not a very intelligent person. That's really it... the jist of my complaint. She's just kind of vapid, disingenuous, bullying, and shrill. And no sense of humor about herself. Reminds me of every Pennsylvania female school teacher I had circa fourth-fifth grade who never laughed at anything and didn't get "irony." A true soccer mom, all into WINNING and WINNERS and SPORTS and other meaningless bullshit.
ALL THAT SAID... Go with me on this, people... Isn't the cheer chutzpah and brazen assholedom of SARAH PALIN'S ALASKA kind of, you know, awesome? Sort like millionaire Limbaugh stumbling out of that hospital with that big shit-eating grin declaring there's nothing wrong with healthcare, or any number of immortal Bush moments... Doesn't anyone else admire that kind of sheer, ass-kicking, fuck-yeah, not-giving-a-FUCK "ball spiked in your face" move only real Republicans can deliver, sticking to their guns as pleased with themselves as possible and just OWNING the matter? Even Maher has said Obama needs more of this cocksure attitude.

Agreed on ownage. Also I know it was just a typo, but Cheer Chutzpah would be a pretty good title for something on her.

Lex, I'm with you. I hesitate to call myself even a semi-Republican these days, but am obviously right-of-center. And I agree with almost every word you wrote (I don't think she will ever hit the White House). In fact, I can't find too many like-minded people who will admit to supporting her.
That said, whose days are so freaking empty they waste time on a campaign like this?

She's neoconservative, not conservative. She believes in endless, enormously expensive military projects that by definition increase government spending and the power and sway of the executive branch. Ot course, she advocates this while promoting the slashing of entitlement programs that, while certainly inefficient, help Americans. She represents the military-industrial complex that Eisenhower warned about many years ago.
And on a purely cosmetic level, her voice is nails-on-a-chalkboard excruciating.

I'd hate to see Sarah Palin successful at anything--including a TV show--even if it means she'll be off the campaign trail. I hate McCain for bringing her into the spotlight. Now I wish she'd just go back under her rock where she belongs. Last weekend AOL had a news snippet about whether Sarah Palin's breasts were real or not. This woman is a joke.

As soon as she can find it on the map.
Lex: "Not evil, not terrifying, she's not going to lead us into oblivion even WHEN she becomes president (and she WILL, as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow),"
She won't, because she's a shitty speaker, and, unlike Dubya, doesn't have moderates to water down her fascist messages.
George: "She's the GOP's Jesse Jackson"

I'm pretty lefty, and i think this is a dumb boycott. Just as dumb as when Focus on the Family boycotts Disney for hosting the gay weekend or giving same sex partners benefits.
Sarah Palin will never be in the White House because she is not interested. If she was, she would not have resigned the governorship of Alaska. She's all about the money and she's racking in the millions as fast as she can.
The fastest way to neutralize Palin is to stop talking about her.

I don't understand... how can you boycott something you weren't going to watch anyway?
What has Sarah Palin ever done to anyone here that has affected their life in such a way as to require them to protest whether she hosts a nature documentary(!) on cable?
Are people really this insecure about their political beliefs that they feel they should blacklist someone from doing something apolitical? Don't have to argue with her, refute her-- just banish her back to the wilderness where you no longer have to think of her? Awfully brave of folks.
Unlike others around here, I won't equivocate: I'm conservative, and I almost always vote Republican above the local level. The doesn't mean I agree with *every* Republican, or even agree 100% with the people I vote for. When you only have two choices on a ballot, you tend to have to make compromises with what *you* would like to see. Democracy is funny that way.
I'm not a fan of Sarah Palin, if you define "fan" as someone who worships at her feet and wishes she'd be the next President. But I'm not afraid of her, either. Nor annoyed, nor even bothered. She's another voice in the political landscape, she motivates people I call friends and colleagues, and gives voice to people otherwise neglected in the current political climate. Not my cup of tea, but again, so what?

With all due respect to dangovich, can I suggest a complete moratorium on the use of the word "neoconservative" to describe "Republicans we don't like"?
It's inaccurate. It's ignorant. Hell, it's not even wrong.Neoconservatism is a specific thing, it has a definition that is rarely-- hardly *ever*-- used properly by anyone in 2010.

nine: "What has Sarah Palin ever done to anyone here that has affected their life in such a way as to require them to protest whether she hosts a nature documentary(!) on cable?"
She's murdered nature from her helicopter? And enabled the current Gulf disaster?
"Are people really this insecure about their political beliefs that they feel they should blacklist someone from doing something apolitical?"
If you think it's apolitical, you're sorely fucking misguided. She's trying to re-shape her image to co-opt moderates who support environmental issues.
"Don't have to argue with her, refute her-- just banish her back to the wilderness where you no longer have to think of her? Awfully brave of folks."
We don't need to argue with her. She lost, but she keeps coming back like Jason.
"I'm conservative, and I almost always vote Republican above the local level. The doesn't mean I agree with *every* Republican,"
Just most of them.
"When you only have two choices on a ballot, you tend to have to make compromises with what *you* would like to see. Democracy is funny that way."
That's what you call a rigged democracy, not an actual choice.
"and gives voice to people otherwise neglected in the current political climate."
She gives voice to stupid hicks with guns.
"can I suggest a complete moratorium on the use of the word "neoconservative" to describe "Republicans we don't like"?"
Yeah, fascist scum-bags is more approprite.
