A complete wifi modem meltdown in the Brooklyn apartment requires a hurried visit to Time Warner Cable's offices on Paidge Avenue. This may or may not be followed by a 3:30 pm screening of Mesrine: Public Enemy #1 (i.e., the conclusion of Jean-Francois Richet's two-part French-produced crime thriller). The only good thing that has happened so far today is that Mike the building owner has fixed the front doorbell.

Been there, done that 1 week ago. At least yours is mid-week, I lost mine on a Saturday and Time Warner wasn't coming out until Tuesday. Only way to get online was go park next to the Starbucks (try getting a table on a Sunday afternoon).
The day can't come fast enough when I can leave TW for a municipal internet utility and ala carte TV via the web.

I had to buy a new router last week, as the old one was too basic to accept a second device. Had to plug the laptop in to the ethernet cable. I understand Jeff's wi-fi woes; it feels like you're cut off from the world when the wi-fi fails at home. As if the electricity has gone out.

I've seen Detour, and I'm an admirer of the film. I just didn't immediately get how it pertained to the content of the post. Because of a wifi meltdown Jeff is forced to make a "detour" from his plans? Is that it?
