"Between Onetime Friends"

At yesterday afternoon's Apple Soho q & a, Social Network director David Fincher was asked about accusations that his film had altered or misrepresented certain aspects of Mark Zuckberg's life and personality. His response struck me as honest, reasonable, fair-minded.

David Fincher's voice - the ultimate cure for insomnia?

Fincher is no Tarantino as far as taking over a room.

I loved when he looked at Eisenberg for support, and JE just nods, pretty much saying, "I haven't been listening, so I better not come in..."

Fincher is incredibly relaxed. I have watched the special features whenever they are available and, with the exception of Alien 3 which was his own personal nightmare, he is comes cross as someone who is "as calm as a Hindu cow." But even on Alien 3, when most other people would have turned homicidal, he was incredibly focused on his job. That is one of the things that I find so surprising about him. His films contain such great energy, such great darkness, explore such problematic arenas of human behaviour and yet he is so unlike his material. (Helena Bonham Carter said that of all the characters in Fight Club, he was most like Marla). He is detached. But not in a cold way. It is just confidence and for young actors navigating their way through Sorkin's script, he and his temperament would be a god-send. And don't even mention the 99 takes. That cast believe in him 2000%.

Tarantino is indivisible from what he writes and directs. And sometimes I think both he and his films are the worse for it.

While running on TV shows in London, I worked with a spark who had lived in LA during the 80's and 90's, and had worked with Fincher at ILM, and also later on on The Game. Said Fincher was exactly as Escape Artist has said; calm and totally in control of what he was doing.

yes, thank God. Tarantino would be spewing the usual self-reverential crap, loving the sound of his own voice

"Who the living hell gives a FUCK about a goddam movie about a website?"

Haven't heard that question before.

But to answer your totally original, well thought out question. A lot of people, apparently.
