The man is a cinematic God - but I still don't think he beats Libatique for BLACK SWAN. That film is stunning beyond words. I'd be happy with a Deakins win, though. It's definitely about fucking tiime.

And not seeing Bob Richarson's name on the ballot for his stupendous lensing/lighting on Shutter Island is criminal. You think Black Swan is well lit and shot....

mrmystery, you're a real credit to your values and the art you choose to stand up for. Just a bit weary of pretending there's anything remarkable about this film. I'm sure the Coens are as bemused as anyone.
If I was in the Academy, most years I would probably tick the Black Swan box for photography and be done with it.
It's gotten so fucking outrageous for Deakins at this point, though, that I'd basically vote for him if he lensed Norbit 2.
He's been mugged more times than a rich white investment banker walking down Martin Luther King alone at night after the news of the Rodney King beating broke.
