Rundown

Welcome to Hart Street in Bedford Stuyvesant. Brand-new car parked in the same spot for a couple of days? Strip it, baby...start with the tires! Oh, and there's a nice crack house (i.e., an apartment complex allegedly populated by druggies) across the street. At night it's clear that all the rooms have power. Drug addicts who pay their electric bills...enterprising.

Starbucks at Columbus and 67th -- Monday, 9.20, 5:10 pm.

Power can be run from streetlights. Crackheads, at times, can be industrious. The powers-that-be in NYC are quietly fretting over rising crime stats, assaults with handgun ( over 40 the weekend before last), and the most visible sign of the pre-Giuliani rennaissance - squeegee men. Once parked - TAKE YOUR TIRES WITH YOU!!!

I've had a Tuesday jones since I was 13 and saw "Lord Love a Duck" on TV. (it blew my 13 year old mind, btw)

And I'm a bit agog.

Sunglasses on a dog? REALLY? That's in the same league as toddlers wearing shades and biker jackets, (and rat tails).

Animals and babies in sunglasses (other than to legitimately protect their eyes) = Cheeseville.

Too bad they're not running some of the first season episodes of DOBIE GILLIS with Tuesday as original Material Girl Thalia.

A friend who lived in NYC used to say the stripped car was the borough emblem of the Bronx.

Yeah, I know, Bed-Stuy is in Brooklyn.

Tuesday was good in Thief, the diner scene was classic, 'you waiting on a bus that ain't coming, cause you don't want to go anywhere..'
the stripped car, quiet as its kept NYC is turning back into the 80's, crimes going up, when the hipsters start getting mugged it wont be pretty.

Are those Donald Pliner shoes? i rock those..

saw the worst digital projection in my life last night of MONEYBALL .... they don't double check the digital prints when they send them out and (especially bad for subtitles) the top and bottom of the screen are cut off and they can't adjust it from the projector like 35 mm

* For the opening preview of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (about 10 minutes), the curtain was not parted all the way. I had to walk out and get one of the security guards to get a theater manager to correct this. It tool like five minutes for this to be rectified. Don't they film studios pay the theater hundreds of dollars to rent it? Why can't a manager be there at the beginning with a walkie talkie communicating to someone in the projection booth?

* When the Columbia logo came on for MONEYBALL the lady's head and torch were cut off

* Subsequently all throughout the film, the heads were chopped off and the bottom was chopped off, you could not read the titles in the bottom left hand side of the screen for instance "Elimination Game"

* The worst hasn't come: For the ending sequence of the film the sound cut off when Brad Pitt is putting the CD with his daughter's song in the car player, and the between the show slide show came on .... despite efforts to rewind the digital print the theater once again cut off the sound and the slide show popped up ... the third time was the charm but by this time most of the audience had left and the emotional resonance of the film was lost

You're 100% wrong. Theaters can, and should, frame their digital presentations correctly. There's absolutely no question it's a theater issue, not a print or studio issue.

I would like to know more about this ... I have had a manager whose word I respect tell me that the digital projectors cannot adjust the frame once the file has been downloaded and he pointed out the problem regarding the subtitles for Sarah's Key

Criterion Guy FTW!

I was going to make some pedantic remark about how squatters steal power, but tying it in with The Wire stole all my thunder. Perfect!

Well played, sir, well played.

Let me guess...it's a Sony 4K projector. If he's setting up the projector correctly (proper aspect ratio, proper masking, etc.) then it might be a lens issue. He should use a studio framing chart to make sure his scope and flat images are accurately projected. If he's not able to get the framing correct, then he should talk to his theater tech, installer or integrator.

When building a show playlist on a Sony there's a way to make a "start template" that does all the easy pre-show stuff for you...ratio framing, lights down, etc. There'd be one of these start templates for each format (scope 3D/2D, flat 3D/2D). Even if these aren't included in the 4K unit (Regals do, AMCs don't), they're very easy to build.

MONEYBALL's playlist was probably built by a genius for scope instead of flat. You got lied to.

"Clearly, Wells never saw THE WIRE, or he'd know to look behind the building to see everyone stealing juice."

Joe Strummer had a story about his early days before the Clash got famous, stealing electricity as a squatter. Put on his rubber Wellingtons and his rubber gloves, stood on a rubber mat, opened the box, and went to work with his tools.

Starbucks at Columbus and 67th. I used to work at ABC across the street until a year back. Got out of town before it bankrupted me.

I heard Barnes & Noble closed on that block. Anything open in its place?
