Jack Black doesn't look like a Mexican national in Richard Linklater's Bernie, which I saw at last summer's L.A. Film Festival, but he does in the one-sheet. In that poster his eyes resemble those of Pedro Armendariz, and to some extent the eyes of Cantinflas. Yeah, I know -- who's Cantinflas?

What soulless mook wouldn't recognize the star of From Russia With Love and Around the World in 80 Days? Probably someone who collects Channing Tatum movies only on Blu-ray.
Jack Black looks like he's in The Informer 2: Got A Secret For You!

"From the director of The School of Rock."
The Photoshop leaves something to be desired, but so does the copy-editing. That title had no "The."

Yeah, is it School of Rock or THE School of Rock?
I think Linklater said on the DVD commentary that the "official" title is School of Rock, so I guess that's what the Bernie poster should say.

Looks like Nacho Libre is undercover as a 1950's vacuum-cleaner salesman. Is for fun.

Mario Moreno, that's who Cantinflas is. Jeff - I'm surprised, or was this irony?
One of the true icons of Mexican popular culture, but never got the international recognition he deserved.
His films are dated now, but having said that, Chaplin said Cantinflas was the greatest comedian of his generation.

Let's be charitable and say it's irony. Pepe, by the way, is among the worst Cantinflas. FRWL is not the best Armendariz film either. You guys need to man up and watch more movies with subtitles, is all I'm saying.

I always thought Pedro Armendariz was Turkish. Or was it Mongol? Gotta love the 50s and 60s, where guys with a little color could play half the ethnicities on Earth. How many times did Anthony Quinn play a Greek?
(By the way, according to IMDB, at birth they gave Pedro his mother's last name of Hastings. Learn something new every day.)

You know, you should really check out that Cable Guy movie sometime (not to mention Mars Attacks!, the Tenacious D album, Waterworld, etc.).
Also: very nice Informer 2 gag there, corey. Hilariously on-point.

That's the SECOND Cantiflas reference I've read today. The other was an article about Oscar snubs that disected Around The World In 80 Days' win.
This may be the last Cantiflas reference I read this year.
